The Creative Spirit

Donna Cavanagh

Creativity needs a home
A place to grow untethered and free
To seize its wings is to kill its soul
And destines us all to mediocrity

The strongest words spur outrage
That is the purpose of true art
To acquiesce to dictated norms
Suffocates and destroys the creative heart

Many want to call themselves artists
But artists listen beyond their own voice
They open their senses to new ideas and words
They show us all paths to life; they give us a choice

When creativity is shut down
When narrow minds force their will
The world becomes a sad, cold place
Imprisoned by conformity - a poison pill
