The Creators of Saw Bring You Dead Silence: Beware of Mary Shaw

QUICHE
The creators of the Saw trilogy now bring to you Dead Silence. In the small town of Ravens Fair lived Mary Shaw a ventriloquist, who loves to entertain. She takes pride in her ghastly doll collection and yearns to make the "perfect" doll. Never having children of her own, the dolls were her children all 101 of them. But it was her favorite "Billy" that shared the spotlight with her.

At one of her performances she is heckled by a small boy, who says that he can see her lips moving. She gives the boy a scowl that makes him terrifed and, goes on with the show receiving thunderous applause. Unfortunately a couple of weeks later that same little boy disappears. The townspeople accuse Mary and seek revenge by cutting out her tongue before killing her. Ever since then Ravens Fair has been plagued by mysterious deaths.

Jamie Ashen and his wife, Lisa receive an anonymous package at their door. Upon opening it they realize it is a ventriloquist doll. Lisa is brutally murdered, and Jamie goes back to Ravens Fair for the funeral, determined to solve the mystery of her death. While there he realizes that Billy was the doll sent to him, and must figure out the link between Mary Shaw and Ravens Fair.

This film has some comparisons with Darkness Falls. The old lady in this film was called the tooth fairy, and one day two local boys disappear, and the townspeople decide to burn her believing that she was a witch. The boys turn up about two days later, but the damage has already been done. Her ghost comes back to haunt the town, and whenever someone is in the dark she snatches the victim up, and they are never seen again.

One thing I loved about this movie, is the fact that is was not predictible. Most horror films are so bad that you can predict when the girl is going to fall flat on her face or when the killer is lurking in the back seat of the car. The ending was like that of the Sixth Sense, and you don't realize certain things until they go back through the movie and show different clues.

I really enjoyed wathching this film, although it did leave a couple of unsanswered questions for me. I will not go into detail, because I wouldn't want to spoil the movie for anyone. This one will certainly be on my list of movies to purchase when it comes out on DVD. If you love horror movies and enjoy being scared this is one to see.

Oh one more thing, toward the end of the movie there is a scene that shows the doll from Saw. If you have a keen eye you will surely spot it. Be careful not to scream for it may be the last sound you make.
