The Crisp White Shirt - a New Trend and an Old Classic

Pauline
May styles come and go, but a crisp white shirt on a woman is a classic. A white shirt goes with everything. No matter what color, pattern or style you're wearing, whether it be a skirt, shorts or slacks, a white shirt will go with it. A white shirt is a wardrobe staple for any woman who wants to be well dressed.

A crisp, white shirt is being touted as one of "Spring's most irresistible trends" by the likes of Saks Fifth Avenue but it isn't a trend. A crisp white shirt with clean lines that accentuate a woman's shape is and always will be a classic that will never go out of style.

The biggest difficulty for American women as of late has been where to draw the line between tasteful and tacky. A shirt should fit comfortably around the bust and never pull at the buttons. If it does, you're wearing a shirt that is simply too small. Forget the numbers. Find the appropriate size.

So what if it fits around the bust but is too baggy around the waist? There is a simple solution to this problem. Although we buy clothing off the rack, it is hardly ever designed to be worn off the rack. We know that every woman's shape is different, so what makes us think that one design suits all? They don't. That's why we all need to find a seamstress and take advantage of what is fast becoming a lost art. For just a few dollars, a seamstress can fit a garment to your particular body so that it fits properly and is far more flattering than wearing it off the rack. This is money well spent for a garment that will last for years if taken care of properly!

Now let's talk about where you can find this wardrobe staple.

Sure, you could go to Saks, Polo or Brooks Brothers and find lovely examples but for the less than the amount you'd pay for one shirt at any of those stores, you could just as easily find five or six of them at a local thrift store and have them altered to fit you!

If you browse the men's section of a thrift store, you can often find tuxedo style or men's dress shirts for just a few dollars. Take them to a seamstress and have her fit them to you for a flattering one-of-a-kind look. All totaled, you'll get a fabulous dress shirt (or more) for far less than you'd pay retail and you'll always great in it!

If you don't have any white shirts in your closet, start looking today!
