In life we all face times were we must take constructive criticism, nothing wrong with that. It honestly makes us a better worker and person if we have a thicker skin with the drive to improve ourselves. Any one reading this article has that drive to some degree, what a great start! Getting real about ourselves and learning to improve communication skills are two of the most important skills a person can own.

Sadly, in todays world, many want to own it for you. Those sparing few who like to criticize for reasons other than construction. We have all meet these people in work and in play; just waiting to tell us what we did wrong and how terrible it is that we have made a mistake. These people rarely know who they are and take great offense when someone might give them truly constructive criticism.

So here we are faced with the fact that even working from home we are going to run in to these mean and negative people. Only now their comments can be more biting and hurtful because they can hide behind there computer screens or telephones and not have to see you face to face. They wont stop to say "Wow this person is trying something new!" They will just start to criticize everything we do. They will forget that they were new to something once, and maybe didn't do such a hot job themselves.

This is were thick skin comes in. While it is very important to strive for constant improvement and to take criticism from your employer; it is not important to take to heart the two cents that some people feel they have to put in. Maybe if they did it in a kind way it would be OK. For those bitting trouble makers who's true goal is to make you feel bad, ignore them. When roaming the forums to look for jobs and see what people are saying avoid being coaxed in to a verbal mud slinging.

The reason for Picking fights with newbies is easy. Some of these people wait around on the forums and message boards so often that they have figured out who is who and what is what. Not wanting to see new people come in to the field as they feel they might get less work. Of course they might just be plain mean. Other way their goal is to scare you of and make themselves more secure. Obviously any one who was doing a great job wouldn't need to spend that much time on a forum any way so their fears are well justified.

It is up to you to decide if a person is truly trying to help, or if they have ulterior motives. Either way just don't play the game. Let it be truly your decision what work you will do. If you are the sort of person who can't help but to feel bad, then once you have secured a job you might never want to go back to those forums again. Perhaps only visit them periodically checking on the industry or new job openings.

I only post this so people know what to expect. Working from home is in high demand and can be a very cut throat world if you let it. It can also be a wonderful amazing source of freedom for you. Never let those negative Nancy's out there stray you from your goals with their emotional warfare. Make the choice to be successful in anything you do. Let being miserable be left with people who seem to like it. Stay cool, stay calm, and don't worry be happy!

On the bright side, because this is the net it is fairly easy to move away from the water cooler gossip and towards doing your job effectively. Also know there are many people out there who really do just want to help and have no problem with new people and giving advice in a kind way. If you find one of these forums then you are in the right place. Working from home can help you to meet some really interesting people and make a new friends.
