The Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB 500R Coffeemaker: Product Review

A Brewster Smythe
Do you remember the days when you still drank commercial coffee? And there were no timers or programs available?

A typical morning went like this. The harried riser rushed to the coffeepot, threw in some uneven spoonfuls of already ground coffee right from the tin can, and then poured water from the pot. While, the coffee was perking, the riser rushed around getting a donut or maybe some other bad-for-you food.

Breakfast and coffee downed- the riser rushed to work, sick to their stomach, but ready for the day.

Today, with the Cuisinart Grind and Brew DB-500R, the world is a changed and tastier place.

Coffee time is much different. First, coffee fanatics all over the world have learned that freshly ground specialty coffees have brought a new dimension into their coffee drinking experience. Each person has found their own favorite combination. However, no matter what coffee type you prefer, freshly ground is always better.

How to do that with morning closing in and work close on its heels?

It used to be that if the experience of newly ground was crucial a person actually ground the coffee first in a separate grinder. No more.

Here are the benefits of the Cuisinart Grind and Brew. This coffeemaker provides the ability to program up to the 24 hrs. This means the morning person can make their coffee the night before, by placing fresh coffee beans in a grind chamber that is a part of the coffeemaker.

When the owner of a Cuisinart wakes up to the aroma of newly made coffee, they will never go back to the old days. Why should they?

Remember, though, to buy the black type of maker, not white, because white will stain, and the grind chamber can be hard to clean. But, let's face it, all grind chambers are kind of hard to clean.

The Cuisinart has all the benefits we have come to expect. A pause and serve, timer, built in water filter, cord storage, and now the built in grind chamber. The coffee will be as good as the coffee beans you program into the maker each evening. Ebay auctions the 500R periodically and has been known to go for as low as $5.00- but a usual price for this great brand is an easy $99.00.

Personally, I am in love with the red maker, just for the fun of it.

Let's face it, a combination grind and brew is a must for the specialty coffee drinker.

I too love the machine, don't mind the clean-up of the pot and parts but really do hate to have to clean the counter, drawers and floor when the problematic lid does not let the coffee flow into the thermal carafe.
Ready to toss it into the bin. Cuisinart customer service solution is for us to make 2 - 120 km. return trips to one of there service centres instead of them sending us a new lid.
Poor quality machine and even poorer customer service.
