What the media has in common is disrespecting people like Iraqi War Veteran, Ryan McDermott who says*:
"Well, I am a Iraq Veteran. Not only that, but I fought on the front lines all the way to Baghdad with the 3rd Infantry Division in 2003. Not only do I think Barack Obama is fully qualified to lead the military, I believe he will be a better Commander-in-Chief of the military than John McCain. Also, personally, I do not think Hillary is fit to lead the troops based on her inconsistent or at least incoherent stance on Iraq. She is qualified, but not fit."
Another person accused of being under the influence of "messianic worship" is Kevin* who served in the US Army for nine and a half years as an Armor and logistics officer. Kevin's assessment*:
"We all know by now that the Army is stretched beyond its capacity. This has made our Country less safe, not more as Bush claims, because we literally could not defend ourselves right now if attacked by a country with real weapons (unlike the 3d rate Country we decided to invade).
Here is a story about the 39th Infantry Brigade in Arkansas. They were notified in October of last year they were to be deployed to Iraq. Since then, they literally have combed the state to find enough soldiers to make the Brigade "full" so it can go off to war. They are still 200 soldiers shy of what they need."
Nineteen year olds often say they have had two ruling families in their lifetime and they want to experience new leadership. The media pays little attention to a Bush/Clinton monarchy or monopoly in DC. The kids are paying attention. The press also does not seem to consider the legality of a two term president returning to the White House as First Man. Senator Clinton has made much of her experience as First Lady as a qualification for president. That seems to mean that she is trying to give Bill a third term in a return to a carbon copy 1990s co-presidency, as Bill promises his audiences.
Brittany* from Los Angeles is attending college in Washington DC studying for a degree in Political Science. Her mother died at age 38 from breast cancer of July 2007. She speaks about her work as a tutor at Birney Elementary School and being able to see the Washington Monument from dirty and broken windows. She supports Senator Obama because he supports fixing a broken educational system that is now denying students art, music and gym classes. Brittany knows first hand what Senator Obama learned when he watched his mother struggle with bills as she battled breast cancer, dying at age 53. Cult like behavior?
Senator Clinton said in her Rhode Island speech: "Maybe I've just lived a little long, but I have no illusions about how hard this is going to be." Is she implying that 94 year old Marjorie Marsh*who volunteered to be a precinct captain in Fort Madison, Iowa for Obama has illusions?
Mrs. Bennett* said "we're not going to play Bingos anymore until after Obama is elected because I am too busy trying to get him in the White House". What does she have in common with Lawrence, Chloe and Alice? None of them were allowed, by law, to sit at a lunch counter in Woolworths in the south prior to 1964. I think all three know a bit about hard work and that it takes more than a president to "get it done".
Hayne Yoon* said she has been involved in politics since she was a little kid, "geeky", and began getting disillusioned about politics during the Reagan administration..She is a Public Defender in Los Angeles. Ms. Yoon is another who was inspired by Senator Obama to take time out of her life to walk streets, knock on doors and register people to vote. Perhaps someone like Yoon knows how the power of words are used by attorneys. Such as when used by 27 year old Hillary Rodham in her defense of a rapist* by attacking the credibility of the 12 year old girl in her defense of the man, while garnering her much touted 35 years of experience. Ms. Clinton certainly has been using words to discredit her rival, such as "shame on you Barack Obama" as if he were a boy, not a colleague.
Ryan McDermott used the word: inconsistent. In Senator Clinton's "shame on you" Barack Attack she says: "...since when do democrats attack each other onUniversal Health Care?" while clutching Senator Obama's mailers. Her Wisconsin mailer has a bold headline: "Barack Obama's Health Care Plan Leaves 15 Million Americans Without Coverage".
Use this link to hear what Lorna Brett Howard,*a former Clinton supporter has to say about Clinton's New Hampshire mailers.
Clinton continues her rant contradicting herself by saying: "...just because Senator Obama chose not to propose a universal health care plan." She concludes demanding Obama meet her in Ohio to explain his behavior because: "...that's what I expect from you." Senator Clinton supporters say of the rant: you go girl, give him hell. Did they believe her as she said in the same attack that she is going to fight those special interest groups in DC? Did she forget the earlier debate where she adamantly affirmed she will continue to take lobbyists money, because "...like it or not those lobbyists are real Americans"?
In her Rhode Island speech* she said to her audience: "You are not going to wave a magic wand and have the special interests disappear." People who have lived as long as myself and others listed in What Do They Have in Common know the first step is to just say no to PACs, who are, special interest groups. Special interests are also favors owed in what my father called "one hand washes the other." You help me and I help you later or political loyalties. Governor Richardson is a prime example of choosing between loyalty and the candidate he prefers due to behavior on the campaign trail.
The cult of Obama? Perhaps the media needs to rethink whose supporters are more cult like in their admiration of the candidate they support.
FYI:
Ron Paul from PACs $17,927. from other sources $54,511.
Clinton from PACs $1,045,419.from prior campaigns $10,000,000 from other sources $11,177,284.
Obama from PACs $25. from other $799,632.
Kucinich from PACs $9,200. from himself $10,322. from other $68.
Edwards from other $141,524.
Richardson from PACs $245,029 from himself $2,300. from other $65,183.
McCain from PACs $579,424. from other $5,019,390.
See Open Secrets online* for more detailed information. I did not list contributions from individuals. "OTHER: All other revenues collected by the campaign, such as interest from the campaign's bank accounts and loans from outside sources. This figure is calculated by subtracting PAC, individual and candidate money from total revenues received. Negative numbers generally indicate an accounting error by the campaign."

My reason for not supporting Senator Clinton is due to her support of the Iraq war. Some images to consider found here.* I support Cynthia McKinney running on the Green Party because of her no vote to the Patriot Act, opposition to war in Iraq and reasons she feels Bush and Cheney have committed impeachable offenses. But Senator Obama has proven he has leadership ability by the good works of his supporters. I also admire the work he has done on behalf of our veterans, especially the homeless ones and those returning from Iraq.

Post a CommentI agree with Senior National Correspondent Jake Tapper. In fact, I completely agree. I get a bad feeling when I see Obama and his supporters on television. I dont know exactly what it is, but something about him really creeps me out and sets off my instincts. And, btw, his little futuristic logo with the sun over the stripes seems the most cultish of it all. Looks like doomsday to me.
I studied the Senator's voting records very carefully and read both of his books. I did fall for Bill Clinton's charm and was not about to make the same mistake a second time. I liked his message of "the United States of America" because I am tired of "red states, blue states" the liberals, the conservatives, the Republican held Congress. It seems the other candidates are out of touch with everyday people. Obama gets it; so do his supporters.
You just summed it up in the voice of AMERICAN people. Thanks for the hard work!
Thanks Alyce! Obama's supporters are as individual as it gets...coming from a 44 year old white woman in the South who has been told by virtually every media outlet that she supports Hillary Clinton! Now, if I listened to what everyone told me I SHOULD support I guess that could be cultish. Instead I did my homework and found that Obama offered too many things our country needs NOT to support him. I defy ANYONE that wants to criticize to do some research and then feel they can defend their prior position!
To say that Obama supporters are a cult of personality just shows that the person saying it is offering a knee jerk REACTION not a thought out point of view. But then that has been the nature of politics these last 20 years or so and it will take a powerful wave to change it.
This ROCKED
Sadly, the privilege of voting in America has become an exercise in voting against those you distrust the most. . . Politicians are . . . politicians. Nuf' said, huh?! Thanks Alyce, for sharing so much of yourself with all of us and thoughtful and personal investment in our voting responsibility - instead of reliance on the media's story of the moment :-)
I applaud your efforts Alyce...my political commentaries have thus far ended up in the digital trash. :-)
Very interesting reading material. I don't trust Hillary Clinton. I'm uncertain of Barak Obama. And I'm glad Nadar finally announced.
Excellent article! This country can't last another 4 years without a positive change.
Great article! I think Senator Obama has some excellent plans for this country. I don't think people are being in cult-like at all in supporting Barack. Great examples. :-)
