The Cure for Hangovers: Just in Time for the Holiday Season

Ironman's Proprietary Concoction May Be the Only True Cure for Hangovers

The Rescue Beverage Corporation - founded by top performing Ironman athlete Robert Scholl in 2006 to "develop products that protect, rebuild, and fuel the body and mind" - announced that it has developed The Cure, which Scholl calls the first healthy, all-natural hangover remedy to relieve the negative effects of alcohol.

The Cure, which is a tropical-flavored, fast-acting powdered mix, is being sold rapidly in liquor stores across Oregon and Eastern Washington. Rescue Beverage says that its Cure alleviates hangover effects including headaches, nausea, dehydration, fatigue, and upset stomach.

Setting it apart from the common home remedies for hangovers like sports drinks, caffeine, and pain relievers, Scholl says that The Cure purges toxins, rehydrates the body, and restores vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and nutrients that are lost during alcohol consumption.

As a successful Ironman athlete and health enthusiast, Scholl was wanted to discover a healthy way of counteracting the negative effects of alcohol on the body. When he was only 26, Scholl founded the Rescue Beverage Corporation to find the mysterious cure.

In order to develop the proprietary formula behind The Cure, Scholl worked closely with his sister, who is a developmental biologist at Duke University, as well as Bob Parrino, Ph.D., who is a clinical psychologist specializing in alcohol effects.

"The holidays are filled with festivities where people want to drink socially, but still wake up and be at their best the next day...Taking The Cure after alcohol consumption...supports the natural metabolism of alcohol, helps to alkalize the blood, and supports liver and kidney function. It is the only hangover remedy on the market that is a cure, not just a cover for hangover symptoms," states Scholl.

A hangover results from a mixture of the toxic by-product of acetaldehyde produced by alcohol's metabolism, dehydration, and the depletion of vitamins A, B6, and C as result of the body's chemical interaction with alcohol.

Other than The Cure, hangover remedies treat the symptoms but not the cause of a hangover. These other remedies include ingesting Berocca, ginseng, Coke or other colas, bananas, V8, salty foods like pretzels, pickles, or anchovies, and taking a hot bath.

Hangovers can be prevented in the first place by drinking in moderation, taking a Berocca before beginning to drink, drinking plenty of water or fruit juice along with the alcoholic beverages, making sure to eat a lot of food before, during, or after drinking, and minimizing the ingestion of sugary foods during drinking.

Some people have also found that a very effective hangover treatment is more alcohol-in the form of a Bloody Mary made with vodka, or a Bloody Maria which is the same thing except made with tequila instead of vodka.
