The Current Healthcare Legislation Would Have Drastic Effects on This Country.

Obama Wants to Tax and Spend yet Even More of the American Tax Payer's Hard Earned Money. Done Incorrectly it Could Destroy the Economy Even Further by a Domino Effect on Our Economy.

Jay Braun
A healthcare reform bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 220 to 215. Thirty nine democrats voted against the bill and only one republican voted for it. Joseph Cao voted against the ineffective stimulus that Obama passed and his district wanted to have a recall election. His district is like 80% democrat and 70% black. It is fair to assume that he knew going against Obama would get him kicked out of office. This is one problem with that administration. Regardless of the measure certain groups mindlessly just follow him even if he said the world was flat or the sky was black and red polka dot. The only thing that can be claimed bi-partisan in the healthcare bill is that there is bi-partisan agreement that it will not work.

I do not think that there are many people who can say that healthcare does not have many problems in this country. There are people who just can't afford to buy healthcare for whichever reason. They could make too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford to buy the healthcare. If their employer does not offer it then it is even more difficult to get. Just about every insurance company will decline someone for pre existing conditions. Some of them like AIDS or Cancer are fairly standard because of the costs associated with them. There are some insurance companies though who will not cover someone who takes more than one regular prescription or who may be a couple pounds overweight. There are really two sides to the issues of pre existing conditions. On one hand the consumer needs insurance and would pay for it if it were affordable. The business view of things is that since the condition will cost the company much more. People who neglect their bodies like drug users and people who catch aids by sleeping around catch a bad break but their actions did lead to self inflicted problems. Last time I checked AIDS, for example, has run rampant in the gay community and amongst druggies who shoot dope. I have a probably having to subsidize their poor decisions. Now a kid who is born with AIDS or underdeveloped lungs should have access to healthcare at a reasonable rate and someone who gets cancer should not be penalized. Most people don't agree, but I do think a small extra premium is only paying their fair share. Most of these people can't get any insurance at all. They might get lucky if they or a spouse have coverage through an employer. This is one of the things that need to be fixed.

Many have argued that other countries like England, Sweden, and Canada have free healthcare. This is not totally true nor is it understood by most Americans that have a sense of entitlement. Many of those who support and voted for Obama have such an entitlement outlook. First of all most of those countries do not have to be the police power of the world like the United states does or have the enemies that the United states does in fighting other countries battles. I am aware that the war in Iraq is all our own doing. It is a separate article but the world is safer without a man like Saddam Hussein in power. All you have to do is look at what he did to his own people. We also end up with having to pick up a large amount of the slack in world conflicts such as the former Yugoslavia and even began to get involved in the issues in African countries like Somalia. I did not see many other nations doing as much work. In the case of the war on terror every civilized nation in the world and especially western European countries are at risk. Also the tax rates in those countries are ridiculous, but they take care of you from cradle to grave. You will notice more people from those countries choose to come to America and live here than American go there to live. This is because people want the chance to work hard and make their own life and not depend on the government. That is not to say those are not great countries. Many are and their citizens are very happy. Europe has many subtle forms of socialized systems, but the United States is not ready for it. Also education is typically more affordable. In some countries if a kid wants to be a doctor it does not become an issue if their parents can afford school. In the United States you either have rich parents or graduate from medical school with over $100,000 in school loans. I don't think doctors spend that kind of money to go to school for the government to take over the system and put their hands in their pockets. I am sure doctors want to help people, but they also need to make some coin as well.

There are a variety of problems with the bills that have been debated. I am going to touch on various problems. Many of these can be separate issues in and of themselves but you will get the idea. The fist thing that Obama and our tax and spend congress need to understand is that we are in a recession. The very moderate Joe Lieberman of Connecticut even thinks we should not be undertaking this huge process in the state of the economy and lack of jobs. Even when they say one thing is getting better on the news like home purchases the next day unemployment is up. Unemployment is at the highest it has been in 26 years. Back in the very early 1980s president Regan was undoing the mess that another tax and spend liberal named Jimmy Carter unleashed on the country.

Immigration is one of those problems that greatly compound the healthcare debate. I have written of my opinion on this matter and there are several good articles about the cost of illegal immigration on this country. I will keep this part simple because of my previous writing. The main thing is that when these people illegally invade our country their children that are born here are automatically citizens and entitled to all benefits including healthcare. Many come here for that reason. The tax payers are stuck with the bill for the birth because they know they can't be refused care and they take advantage of it leeching off of our country like cockroaches. Free healthcare would make more of them come here. Ending birthright citizenship would stop that. Also with legal immigration since we take more immigrants than any other country that is more money we will spend because many immigrants come from primitive countries and are in bad shape as is and we have to pick up the tab. There are supposed to be checks in the bill to insure those here illegally won't get covered but there are not. It has stuff in it but there really is no enforcement because the Latino lobby claims its racist. Illegal invaders who leech off the U.S. are not just Latino. They are just the majority of the illegal aliens in the United States. I recommend reading about the problems with illegal aliens in this country. They are often called undocumented persons. Calling a criminal illegal invader and undocumented person is like calling a drug dealing an undocumented pharmaceutical sales rep. Common sense and over 70% of American doesn't want amnesty. It will cause more to come up and only ad to healthcare and education and prison costs. I think anchor babies or any new us citizen should have to wait at least five years to be eligible for this unless one of their parents can be verified to be a legal citizen. That solves that cost issue right there.

Another issue in the healthcare bill is the use of funds being used to pay for abortions. I will say that I think abortion is murder and that if people do not want to get pregnant they should learn to slob a knob or don't have sex at all, or at least use protection. I am open to the ideas of abortions to protect the life or health of a mother and in cases of rape. I personally would have a child that was the product of rape and know people who have, but would not force a woman to do that. A compromise over abortion funding actually is how the House bill got passed by three votes. Many pro choice democrats have said they will vote against it if the abortion restrictions are still in there. I do not believe any federal money should be used for abortions in less there is an extreme case. Of course these ladies ( used very loosly) out there are talking about taking a way to chose or as I say take the ultimate act of being irresponsible by murdering your baby. There are plenty of people who want kids and can't have them, I do0nt think the bill passes because of the few good decent Christian democrats that will not vote for it without them. There are then many who believe in slaughtering the unborn who will not vote for it unless abortion funding is a part of it.

The biggest problem with the bill is the cost. Basically you are going to rob the rich to pay for the poor. People work hard to make money and should not have their wealth redistributed. The American way is that you work, you earn and then you get. The liberal way is other people work, other people earn and then people who don't work get. Many sources including the CBO have predicted the premiums will ultimately rise. There is debate over how much but they will go up. You will also have to deal with Dr. Shortages and many doctors want to take these plans that don't pay anything. Some may even go to cash customers. I thought the whole benefit of the program was to keep costs down and not for them to stay the status quo or go up. Many insurance companies are already raising rates in preparation for this. My wife's friend from her church choir had her Medicare part b go up over 100%.

Another problem is see is Medicaid and Medicare costs. Some states will have to pick up more of the Medicare costs than they already do like Delaware, New Hampshire, Minnesota and various other states that ironically supported Obama will have to spend more money under his plan. Talk about biting the hand that feeds him. Other states that are proactive in providing people coverage will have the same problem. Basically since the states are having budged problems just like that federal government the feds will be passing more of the expense to the states by cutting the amount of Medicaid assistance they offer.

If you had seen most of the town hall meetings you will know that the American public in general does not want this. Last poll I had seen had like 55% against the program and 40% approving it. Many approving it are members of certain ethnic groups that will follow Obama to the end of the earth because "he is one of us" or "he wants chance" These are the same people you see wearing shirts of Obama. If you want to have fun ask them a bit about him and you will find many know nothing about the many other than the fact that he is half black. I am surprised it went this far when the public is so against it. I doubt there are death panels, but anytime you have government control of something like this cost savings are a factor and death panels are something that I could see happening.

A couple groups have endorsed this like the AARP and AMA. First of all that was not voted on by their members because a majority of Drs do not want this and many AARP members cancelled their memberships over this. Endorsements are not always given by rank and file but based on a few elites on the board of directors who make decisions. Obama has offered lots of bribes on some of this like not hitting the AMA with as much cost in the plan that they previously proposed. He got many of the drug companies onboard by agreeing to not import cheaper drugs and negotiate price the many organizations do. He also will extend their patent right past the normal ten years on new drugs instead of lowering it which it turn will keep costs for non generic high. If the protection period were lowered it could lower costs. We also were supposed to be able to import cheaper drugs, but to get in bed with the drug lobby and all their money Obama agreed not to do that after stating that is one thing he would like to do.

There has been discussion about the quality of care suffering under Obamacare. This really should not be that far fetched for anyone to believe. Think of it this way. If doctors are spending large amounts of money on pursuing their career and then cant make any money then less and less people will want to be doctors. Another thing is that all these extra people with insurance will create a burden on the system as it is. There won't be enough doctors to handle the new amount of customers. Many doctors will not be taking new patients. You also may not get the time you need with your doctor. To make what they make currently a doctor might have to see three patients in the amount of time it used to take them to see one patient. That worries me. I know Obama supporters are saying that the new recommendations for Medicare are not their doing, but under Obamacare this could happen. Anytime an organization that may not be cost effective they decide to quit covering it. Mammograms are one such example of this. Another that I had heard of was some insurance companies were trying to have the anesthesia for a colon exam reduced to a mild local that would cause more paid. In that case people may not get the procedure they should need. The insurance company is just as bad as the government in this case, but it shows that whoever is paying be it the government or insurance company cost is a main factor. What is pathetic is it will cost more in the long run to remove a breast or what not than to do the mammogram even with the occasional false positive.

One thing about the whole process of this healthcare debate is that many democrats are not voting on what they think is good but trying to protect Obama. This makes me sick. They are there to serve the American people. Not hand the least qualified president in years a win so he can get four more years. You even hear them talking about it. They say we have to give Obama a win. That is looking more like a dictator with his Gestapo than a president with congress. Opinion is turning against him and the only reason the polls show some of it so high is he still has the rock star effect and Negroes will say he is doing a great job regardless of the facts most of the time. Just like 95% of the Negro race voted for him. I am curious how many could tell you anything about the man other than his skin tone. Even if he gets this passed it won't take effect until 2013 and congress could have a shake up because of all the things the reps and senators are pulling with people despite public opinion not wanting many of the programs Look at the results in New Jersey. The policies Obama is running are in line with what Corzine was doing and he was the least popular governor in the country. He spent millions of his own money attacking Chris Christie and still lost. The people of Jersey were concerned with the issues. As I mentioned opinion is also against the bill in most polls. Many like the idea of a public option, but all they hear is "free healthcare" and think great. Nothing is free. Those shady liberals did not even want the bill they voted on to be posted so the public could see it. Nancy Pelosi herself when Bush was in office condemned this practice. That is pretty hypocritical. I believe all politicians should be required to read every bill they vote on and it should be able to be viewed by the public. Not allowing the public to view it is like telling the people who voted for them that we are nothings.

Another thing I think sucks with this bill is the millions in lobbying by both sides that has been spent on both sides. Hell you could cover lots of people by not spending that money. You could give it to homeless shelters to feed people who have not eaten in days or have no place to sleep. You could also offer subsidies to people to afford it. I think people should think of that and do what is right for the country. Things need to chance, but you don't want to create a new entitlement in the middle of two wars and a big recession.

I think this bill could hurt the economy even further in what I like to call the domino effect. This does not happen overnight, but think of this as food for thought. This is what could occur. Obama gets his way and the bill passes and I am sure some type of public option will occur. Many employers will not longer offer coverage because it would be cheaper to pay the find since the employees could get it through the government. The service would probably be horrible. If you have dealt with many federal employees you will notice that a large amount are not very ambitious. The price and quality of care will be lower and many doctors will not want to take it because of the reduction in payment. With the kind of money that doctors spend to become doctors that reduction in payments will result in lower quality of care. Even a liberal should be smart enough to know that.

The domino effect would further go like this. The healthcare gets passed and has some type of public option of exchange type mechanism. Insurance companies eventually will start to go out of business. This will not happen all at once but will happen over time. When they start failing people will start getting laid off from those insurance companies. Those people laid off will quit spending money at restaurants, clothing shops, car dealerships and various services and products further hurting the economy. The people in those services will then be in the same situation and there will be layoffs and hours cut. So the healthcare bill has now affected a couple of industries in the actual locations were the job lost is. Now all those people who either lose their jobs or lose a good part of their income are not able to pay their bills. You then have banks losing more money, not wanting to lend money worse than they are now. Those banks then start laying off. Then the cycle goes on and on and on. Basically breaking the insurance industry will have a huge domino or ripple effect that will be causing more harm to the country than the harm of the people without insurance. Some people are not smart enough to figure this it but it's not that hard. If someone does not have money who used to eat out every week stops going out the restaurant has less money. If enough people are not eating out the restaurant has to either layoff or close. If they close there are various loan losses typically. Do you think the fat cat CEO will take a pay cut? Hell no! Someone at the bottom of the pecking order gets laid off and then does not spend money they don't have and the cycle starts again. I have personally seen this when the largest employer in my state laid off like 25% of the work force in the state. Dry cleaners, restaurants that were just built closed within a few months. As bad as the economy is I am not comfortable with this experiment and anyone with half a brain would not. In a good booming economy might be the time to try something like this but in an intelligent way not trying to do it all overnight.

I have always heard the saying that you should not criticize something unless you can offer alternatives. I understand this. It is not always true, but I do understand this. I am actually going to write another article on some of my ideas to assist in healthcare. For now I will just shoot a couple. One idea is that you should allow insurance companies to sell across state lines. We currently are limiting free enterprise by not allowing this. Another thing we could do that would save lots of money is fix the problem with illegal aliens coming here and letting their anchor babies have everything on our dime. Those are two very high level things that would greatly reduce costs. I will get more detail for my readers in a further review.
