The Curse of A-Rod and Why the Yankees HAVE to Win the World Series
You've all heard of the Curse of the Bambino, right? Supporters of Babe Ruth's curse suggested that the Boston Red Sox didn't win a World Series for 86 years because they sold the best baseball player who ever played the game to their rivals, the New York Yankees. This was a load of crap, though. The real reason that the Red Sox couldn't win the big game is because they were owned and managed by idiots for the better part of 100 years. I hate when people contend that the Sawks inability to get a World Series title had anything to do with Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth was just a phenomenal athlete who went 4-3 with the Yankees in the World Series. What's that? You thought his World Series record would be better than that, right? Nope, Babe was just 4-3, sorry. Shit, before 1918 the Red Sox were 5-0, giving them more total World Series victories than Yankees by the time Babe Ruth retired.
So, with that said, I don't really believe in The Curse of the Bambino or the Curse of the Billy Goat or the any "curse of the..." for that matter. But I do believe in the Curse of A-Rod. Boston fans were devastated when they didn't land A-Rod before the 2004 season, little did they know what would happen. A-Rod hasn't been bad for the Yankees in a meaningful spot, he has been horrendous. If it's after the 7th inning and the game is close, A-Rod is guaranteed to either pop up, strike out or ground into a double play. He is cursed and he has subsequently cursed the once proud New York Yankees.
Now I must say two things that are quite important. One, I'm a Yankee fan and two; I believe that curses can be reversed. Was I shocked that the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS? No, not really. 86 years is a long time; it was just their time. I do fear, however, that the Yankees are in for a drought of their own though. I can't really explain it, but I don't see them winning any championships with A-Rod on the field. It's not that I don't have hope because I do. I just wouldn't put any money on the Yankees with A-Rod in the lineup. But if they were somehow to win it all this year than the Curse of A-Rod would be immediately lifted and they'd probably win the next five in a row. In fact, if the Yankees win the 2006 Series so much weight will be lifted off of A-Rod's shoulders that his next couple of years will look like this: .345, 52 homers, 149 RBI. Believe that. I for one have my fingers crossed.

Post a CommentAlso I don't understand how anyone can be a Yankees fan. They are a disgusting example of American greed. They just buy all stars instead of developing talent. If there was a salary cap the Yankees would be one of the worst teams in the major because they are ran by total idiots.
The best team in baseball is truly shown over a long season (barring injuries) ... a short series (and yes a 7 game series in baseball is short) is just going to have way too much randomness to really say which team is best. You'll get a winner and that's entertaining and that's great really. But that's why a team like the Yankees while they have been the best team - arent going to win every year. There's too much randomness involved with 8 teams in the playoffs. There's 3 playoff series you have to win in a row. The better team usually has about a 60% chance to win .. you have to figure that even if you are the best team you are only going to win the world series about ever 5 or 6 times you in the playoffs. The Yankees will probably win another world series soon... they've bought the team that will make the playoffs every year. They just need LUCK in the postseason
People are really not that bright. You have to understand that now that baseball has an 8 team playoff system you are not going to see many streaks anymore. What the Yankees pulled off in the late 90s was a bit of a miracle really. Baseball is not like basketball or football where the best team usually wins a series (or game in football's case) ... The difference between the best team and the worst team in baseball is much closer than in the NFL or NBA. This is very very important to understand. Otherwise you just don't get it... I'll get more into the mathematics soon.

A-Rod is one of the only players who was a shoe-in HOF by before turning 30. Make up all the reasons why you don't like him, it doesn't matter - he skills are second to none.
