At Home
What would a daily (Monday through Friday) column look like called the Daily Balance? I have written so many columns but this one would be balanced between home, work, and community. At home family life, getting off to the right start with devotionals, and prayer seems to be what I need. The balance of nutrition, finances, and daily excercise, parenting and marriage are my daily concentrations. While I do not plan to devulge personal information I plan to use the Daily Balance to generally show my readers and listeners ways I am in relationship to all these life matters at home. I won't be giving my bank balance out!
At Work
As a communications director and special needs pastor, missionary, and worship pastor for a number of churches, ministries and publishers, the balancing act is a daily challenge. Time, talent and treasure are the three commodities that I balance, the who, what, where and why also need to balanced with profit and loss, and creative, production and distribution. So there is a bottom line and a time of grace that compliments an attitude of benevolence, prayer, and building relationships.
In the Neighborhood
In the Inner City or the suburbs, the balance is what I am studying, who I am in relationship with and who I am reaching out to. In delivering the message, singing the songs and playing the music, and being on-mission it may be a little tougher to balance. My mission is to be an advocate to the least of these, building up leaders to be advocates to the least of these. Balancing message, music, and mission, raising support and driving the front range is where the calling is. In March 2011, this will be the place where you can gauge how I'm doing.
Balances to consider:
The balance in the bank
The balance in Marriage and as a Dad
The balance on the scale- nutrition and exercise
The balance as a citizen
The balance of stewardship
The balance at Home
The balance at Work
The Balance of Community
While in our lives and in our country we are experiencing an imbalance in financial, employment and in our physical and spiritual lives, I believe that comes from putting too much emphasis on "change" without a true understanding that we are right in the middle of correction. If Unions can't embrace correction, because there is not enough money in the bank, then they can't ever get to change. The bridge from correction to change is challenge. Governors of most states face challenges everyday and to paint them as evil and "union busting" as has been done in the course of the last few weeks, then we are worse off than we have ever been. Yes, we are financially bankrupt, but why are teachers in Wisconsin ethically and morally bent on bankrupting us?
