The Danger of Black and White

Donna Cavanagh
At times we all think we know the answers
We have decided what is wrong and what is right
There are rules to be followed and obligations to be met
No room for any gray area; there is only black and white

We have to learn to be careful of the black and white
So much of our lives lie in the vast in between
Extremes can close our eyes and minds
And make judging others a dangerous routine

Before we look down on the beliefs of others
Before we take that determined stand
Think about what it is we are trying to prove
Is there common ground on which we can stand?

There will be times when we never see eye to eye
The differences should open the mind - not close the heart
More than one path can lead to the ultimate truth
It is the fight for righteousness that tears the world apart

I must say that besides the analogy of extremes (black and white) I enjoy color so much more. :) Kind of parallels not being so extreme in life.

Absolutely brilliant. Even the Apostle Paul and Barnabas dissagreed over taking John Mark with them or not...they parted ways but in a sense, they were both right. Great points in this poem. We can agree to disagree.
