The Danger of Depression- Suicide

Bernardito Gonzales
When someone is down and he needs a helping hand, please, do not hesitate or do not deny him the chance to live a normal and fruitful life.

A neighbor or a friend is a key to saving a life. Why? Your friend or neighbor maybe be dead the next time you see him/her. You may not be aware of his/her movements and physical actions. He or she may have committed suicide.

Suicide is very serious and this stems from mental disorders or depression.

If you want to save someone, you should know the following tips: Take notice if----

- a person may have lost a family member;
- a person may have been confined and released from mental hospital;
- a person may have symptoms of violent behavior;
- a person may have attempted suicide in the past;
- a person may have trauma from physical, emotional and sexual abuse;
- a person may have a family history on suicides;
- a person may have terminal illness;
- a person may be desperately seeking jobs;
- a person may be an alcoholic;
- a person may experience love life depression.
- a person may have experienced abuses; and,
- a person may follow a friend who committed suicide.

The above-mentioned persons are prone to committing suicide and should be prevented.

To prevent them from doing so, a concerned person should be on guard on warning signs:

- threatening to commit suicide;
- sudden mode to silence;
- changes in personality and appearance;
- dangerous behavior;
- making suspicious preparations;
- making queer actions and attitudes toward friends;
- merrymaking/partying with friends as if going abroad.

The life you may be saving may be the life of your own relative or a family member.
So, do not leave him/her alone. Do some preparations to calm him/her. Do counseling and do not take it for granted. Consult a psychiatrist.

She or he may be lost forever.
