However as you well know things are changing at a rapid pace. The "good old days" are gone and the fast pace rat race is here. Many values and morals have also changed with the times.
Today, many cartoons carry a different reputation than the all loved and wholesome shows we loved as kids. Today there are cartoons aimed at adults.
These cartoons have adult topics, language, and humor. They mock and create a funny twist on life's trials. They look at the nonfunctional families of today's world. They use language and innuendos that once would have never made the television screen much less a cartoon.
Some of the cartoons that descriptions above match include The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Bevis and Butt Head, and even some episodes of Sponge Bob.
While these cartoons can be very funny and entertaining for adults, they can also attract young eyes that do not need the influence.
This is just as in the Joe Camel days when the famous cartoon character was attached to the Camel brand cigarettes.
Children flipping through channels surfing for something to watch are much more likely to stop on animated shows that are attracting to them. These shows can be very misconceiving. They appear to be for children to their design. However their content is geared toward adults.
The end result is children watching inappropriate television shows with crude humor and language.
Many fans of these shows will disagree. They enjoy the humor, the language, and the content. For the appropriate age viewer, the shows are fine. However they may be justified were they not animated and attractable to children.
Unknowing adults can also be fooled by first glance. An adult walking into the room may make the assumption that their child is watching a child's cartoon. However if stopping to listen to the plot and story line, they will discover differently.
When letting your children watch television, do not be fooled by these adult cartoons. Although the show is animated, make certain that you also check the rating and find out which age group the show is intended for the watching.

Post a CommentI suggest that parents become more involved in what their children do, and watch on television.
You may feel that a one glance approach to your children's outside influences is sufficient, but you obviously feel that these programs are inappropriate for them.
It is not the networks and writers obligation to raise children. It is the parents.
You make underlying points that are the truest around. Parents today are terrible. If you don't want your children to watch specific programs get a v-chip or monitor their TV watching. I grew up in the late 80's and 90's, yet never saw 1 Simpsons episode until I was 16 years of age. My parents thought it was a bad show for a child to watch and monitored my limited freedom to watch TV.
Get your kid a book, maybe play a game with them and quit depending on the television to raise your family.
All good points!! Great article.
