The Dangers of Mold

Most molds are microscopic fungi that grow on surfaces like foods, walls, and cabinets. When mold spores grow in clusters, they're easy to be seen. For instance, if you leave a loaf of bread on the table for too long, you'll probably begin to notice pieces turning greenish-blue. These are mold spores that have group together so they can be seen with a visible eye. Other foods mold tend to grow on are fruits and sweet treats like cake. While some people just cut the moldy section of the bread slice off and eat the rest, it's best to just toss it and buy a fresh loaf.

It's also common for mold to develop and grow in ones bathroom. This is because mold spores tend to grow in moist, humid areas. The perfect breeding grown for your bathroom walls, windows, and sinks. It's not uncommon to see black mold growing along the walls in bathrooms, but if you notice it, you should definitely attempt to clean it, or hire a special cleaning company. Many people clean moldy walls down with bleach but that only kills the mold on the surface, it can and probably will grow back in that same area later on. It's also not good for your lungs to constantly breathe in the chemicals that are found in bleach. While these are mold spores that can be seen and dealt with, other mold spores are trickier to handle because they cannot be seen. Sometimes there can be a leaking pipe within the walls of your home that can cause mold to build up inside the wall, causing a huge problem along with a huge bill to get the issue rectified.

Mold isn't just a pest that can cost a fortune to get rid of; it's also harmful to your health and can even be deadly. Not only do they cause allergens to flare up but some molds can produce mycotoxins which float through the air and cannot be seen with a naked eye. Since it cannot be seen, you and your family could be breathing in such toxins and not even know it. If someone breathes in too much of these toxins, they can become extremely sick. Illnesses related to mold include but not limited to, depression, respiratory problems, and nervous-system disorders. In some cases, breathing in mold toxins can also become fatal.

Situations involving mold should never be taken lightly. Ways to prevent mold from plaguing your home is to weekly use cleaning solutions to wipe down wet and humid places within your home, specifically your bathroom. Mold can also begin to grow within your refrigerator, so it's a good idea to keep that wiped down and as dry as possible as well. If you have food that has begun to mold, even partially, toss it. Better safe than sorry. If you notice a recurrence of mold build up anywhere in your home, chances are it's a greater problem occurring within that surface that probably requires professional assistance and cleaning.
