Siren were heard from miles away,
Panic could not be controlled on this
most horrifying day
The fear, the chill, the frantic,
Felt by all,
No one knew what to do, what to say, whom to call;
The mountains, the trees, the flowers, the birds,
The beauty was gone, where could it be?
Nothing left untouched,
Every where that eyes could see,
Gone was the beauty from every tree;
One thing in common on everyone's mind,
For prejudice, and anger, there was no time,
Transparent! Colorless! The Big Chill!
No time to worry about paying the bill,
Colorless day, not a shade of grey,
From clothes, from food, from drink, and home
Where has all the beauty gone?
The old man stared at his colorless form
In his colorless mirror,
hanging from the wall, in his colorless home,
He listened to the sound of the humming bee,
Songs from the birds, in the colorless tree;
For the first time, the old man, well aware,
How beautiful color used to be;
The beauty of color, if once again,
I could only see,
Red! Yellow! Grey, Green! or Gold!
It sure will help, as I grow old,
Oh, the beauty of the sky, of the tree,
Color that means so much to me;
The old man closed his eyes in fear,
He felt a single transparent tear,
Then, another, and another, followed by despair,
His face soon covered with colorless tears,
The screams! Oh, the screams! Did pierce his ears,
As Colorless neighbors experience the fears,
The old man ran into the street,
on his aging, colorless feet,
The cries were loud, the fears were real;
He looked near and he looked far,
He looked up and he looked down,
He turned around and around,
This cannot be the old man cried,
Here I stand on colorless ground;
Back inside his home,
the old man huddled in the corner,
He buried his head in his hands,
Intimidated by the colorless wall,
Not knowing what to make of it all;
Mr. man, hello, Mr. man, the small voice cried,
Have you seen my dog? He's just a little dog,
A little brown, dog, He's lost, I can't find my little dog,
The old man slowly opened his eyes,
There standing before him, a small child,
Can you help me find my dog?
Please, help me find my little brown dog;
The old man was overwhelmed with joy!
He grabbed the little girl, hugged her tight,
kissed her cheeks,
He said you just made my night
You are beautiful! he shouted,
You are black and beautiful!
Yesterday, he was angered when she moved onto his street,
Today, from the same cookie jar they both did eat,
She glowed in living colors,
Everything was beautiful, beautiful color everywhere,
It was all a dream, a terrible nightmare;
The old man looked at the child and smiled,
For the first time in his life he really appreciates color,
For the first time in his life,
He really saw the beauty of color,
The thing he always took for granted,
Today it was all so enchanted,
Will you help me asked the child?
Yes, I will, he answered with a smile,
Remember she said, he's little and he's brown,
Brown is beautiful, the old man said,
I love the color brown,

Post a CommentExcellent! Without so many different colors and shades of colors, this world be a boring place.
You know what I thought was interesting about this poem? I pictured the colors changing as it went. In my imagination, a neighborhood slowly became black and white like a digital image in a computer editing program. Good stuff.
So true that many do not appreciate the beauty of a colorful world.
