An alien by the name of Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) comes to Earth to tell people that they are to be removed because their actions are killing Earth and Earth cannot die. Remake. The Day the Earth Stood Still.
I believe Keanu Reeves was a perfect pick for his role. Not only that but Keanu rhymes with Klaatu; sort of. I think Jaden was a blossoming actor in this film. He grew so much to perform so well. If someone were to get a gold star in this remake for their acting it would be him. He out preformed many of the adult actors that should have took a few lessons from him for their parts.
There were many things that were different about this version than the older 1950's one. The main difference was the creative flare that this version had. There was more coolness with how the ship looked and starts to destroy things like a stadium and such.
The story was different than the original in that it took longer to tell. A whole 20 minutes longer. It felt like it was spinning its tires in the story telling mud for the first 30 minutes. The fault of this film is on the script. The directing, the acting, the action, the CGI work was all good. The script was a failure. I also suppose that part of the failure was directing because it could have been shorter and it might have made it have a less horrible aftertaste
I like the original more. It had an endearing charm to it that this film turned into cold and distant like Corinne around Crystal at the Ponderosa. (Survivor Reference because I'm going to be writing a blog about that finale; stay tuned for that blast of overly passionate fun.) I wouldalso say cold and distant like an iceberg in the Alaskan waters, but the global warming thing would ruin that.
I suggest if you liked the original you stay away from this one like people who liked the War of the Worlds were not pleased with remake. I like Keanu Reeves, Jaden Smith, Kathy Bates and Jennifer Connelly; but they could not rescue this destructive force of a film if they were paid to...wait a second....
