The Day Obama Became President

Robert Jeanlouie
"Justice was done", concluded Barack Hussein Obama. It was almost midnight.

Three weeks ago, Sunday, America erupted in pride and elation at the conclusion of the speech of the President announcing that Osama Bin Laden, a nightmare for all Americans, was killed by the Rambo arm of the US government. Some, at Ground Zero, and on Pennsylvania Avenue, descended into revelry. The malaise and the doom of this morning of September 11, when rush hour in New York was transformed into Pearl Harbor, another day of infamy, was avenged. America revered its President, its newly found national leader.

In the US, the elections don't make a President. The occupant of the White House must prove that he can do the job to the satisfaction of ALL Americans, before opponents and other adversaries view him as their President. It took Obama, Muslim to the eyes of too many, soft-on-defense for all conservatives, peace idealist for the Nobel Prize committee, the assassination of Osama to be called President Obama by the Tea Party head honchos. Before that he was simply Barack Obama.

George Bush Jr became President of all Americans on September 13, 2001, when he grabbed a megaphone on the ruins of the World Trade Center and promised to America that whoever did the deed will have to pay for it.

Bill Cllinton had its epiphany when he made that speech in Oklahoma City after Timothy McVeigh blew up the Murrah Federal Building, in April 1995. The man of Hope, Arkansas, said: "We pledge to do all we can to help you heal the injured, to rebuild this city, and to bring to justice those who did this evil". His fainting popularity soared; the following year he won the elections.

Bush 41, a wimp in the shadow Ronald Reagan, obtained his national credentials during Gulf War I. He re-established the credibility of the American armed forces. His approval numbers jumped to 90%.

Ronald Reagan, widely viewed as a doubtful actor, became President when he was shot in the chest by John Hinkley, in March 1981. Congress could only vote with a martyr, and enact his agenda.

Jimmy Carter never became President. Therefore, after the debacle of Operation Eagle Claw, the failed rescue mission of the 52 American hostages held in the US embassy in Tehran, his presidency was doomed.

In Newark, NJ, you don't became a full member of a street gang until you complete an initiation rite, that, at times, includes such exercises as shooting a motorist waiting for the red light to switch to green. In America, you don't become fully President until you become the Protector-in-Chief, and for that to happen you need to be shot at or to have someone shot.

Obama was elected to fix the economy. His national security credentials were nonexistent. By sending Bin Laden sleep with the fishes, like Solozzo did to Luca Brasi, in The Godfather, Obama will give the Republicans a run for their money in their own warring territory. Now, to be re-elected Obama has to drag employment down to 7% or less, or prove that no opponent has better skills to do it than he does.

Mark the date, Obama became President on Sunday, May 1, 2011. JFK became President during the Cuba Missile Crisis.

By shooting Osama dead in lodging a bullet in his face, Obama exorcised the American psyche, redeemed its fear and anxiety. The new Protector-in-Chief can sail to become the new Provider-in-Chief. No one will question his patriotism, no one will ever again ask him for his birth certificate, no one will ever again claim that he is not the Christian-in-Chief. Ever again.
