Several years ago we were stationed in Germany. Our youngest son, who was 10 months old at the time, was in the hospital. Every Sunday, after church we would stop by and visit him, as a family. His doctor said he was doing much better, and if we wanted we could take him with us to the hospital cafeteria for lunch. I was thrilled. It wasn't often that I was able to have all three of my children together at mealtime, and I was going to make the most of it.
We all walked downstairs to the cafeteria. My husband got us all seated and comfortable, then he went off to the counter to order our lunch. No sooner had he gone out of sight when a Santa Clause walked into the room. Our oldest son just sat there staring at him with wide eyes.
Noticing this, Santa walked over and shook our son's hand and gave him a candy cane. As soon as Santa let go of his hand, he started screaming, "Da-a-a-d!" He did this two or three times. My son is jumping up and down screaming for his dad, I have a baby in my arms and another son to watch over, and besides; we didn't know what happened.
About this time my husband came running in, and snatched our son up. He was worried. He was thinking something awful had happened, and Santa and I were just looking dumbfounded. Our son was happy, that was obvious, but why?
My son kisses his dad and says, "Look dad, I got to meet Moses, and he shook my hand!"
Needless to say, everybody in the cafeteria started laughing.
My husband shook Santa's hand and said,"Hi, um, as you can tell, we just got out of church." Santa just smiled and turned to go. Right before he got to the door our son yells out, "Bye Moses!"
Our son is now thirty years old, and not a Christmas goes by, but what we sit and reminise about the day he met Moses. It has brought some amount of joy to each of our Christmas's since.
