The Days We Waste so Well - Halloween Poem

What Happens when the Sun Goes Down and the Lights Go Out?

Danny Forst
The Days We Waste So Well

The days we waste so well

With curtsies and with bows.

In the shops and open fields

We tend tills till sun goes down.

Then we smile and greet our guests

That have stopped over for a bite.

We keep the sun alive for time,

With a quiet candlelight.

But when the candle burns its wick

And the wax dries for the night,

We'll all wink out, one by one,

And wait for dawn to break.

Then at night, when the moon shifts quickly

And the witches take to brooms,

I'll drink fire and eat smoke

To forget that light looms close.

Nearby a phantastic specter

Will dance with throngs of ghosts,

And revel in the quick black

That lasts but for a stroke.

Time weaves and waddles,

Cuts and sways and ends short-

The dawn is come, farewell.

And to all my ghosts and witches,

And ghouls and goblins dear,

We'll wait until another black

To forget this light we fear.

Just a fun little poem for Halloween time...or is it?
