Now, there are a few things that we clever females can learn on the spur-of-the-moment to keep our men forever guessing, always wondering. You get the idea. Let us begin with the facts, in extreme summation, shall we?
This is the 49th running of the Daytona 500. it is this sport's biggest race, like the Superbowl of football. Doesn't ring a bell? Okay, the Daytona 500 is like the Miss America to all Pageants.
This year, one Tony Stewart, good-looking guy who has been minding his diet and has lost 20 pounds, is believed to be the one who will finish in first place. (Three racers will place, providing they do not all wreck at those high speeds.) Tony will be starting 3rd today. He will be driving the care that has Home Depot advertising cluttered all over it. Honestly, ladies, this sport's designers have never considered the "Too many accessories" rule. Tony's Home Depot Shout-Out is the #20 car, but I am quite certain you will recognize it anyway.
Jeff Burton is a nice fellow who will be starting in the seventh position today, and many people think he will finish in the top second or third place. He will be driving the # 31 car, practically covered in Cingular advertisements. Actually, if one must over-accessorize in order to win a prize of that magnitude, at least they should be able to get a free cell phone to consult friends while enduring the negative fashion statements it creates. Therefore, Jeff Burton must be a clever man, making it appear as if the statement he makes is vindicated by the over-done Cingular advertisements. Jeff was born in Virginia and is 5'7 in height. He has earned over 3 million dollars during his career and finished in first place at a Pepsi race in the year 2000.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr., driver of the #8 car that actually has a fashionable number of advertisements on it that does not seem to clutter or lose whatever positive fashionable image it is trying to convey. Of course, they are advertisements for beer (men love beer), Budweiser. His father was Dale Earnhardt, Sr., and he was killed in a wreck during the Dayton 500 race in 2001. His son bravely carries on the family career choice, and is believed to be a challenge to Tony Stewart and Jeff Burton today at the 2007 Daytona 500.
Jimmie Johnson was the Daytona 500 winner in 2006. Many believe he will be a contender today, as well.
Dale Jarrett is a 50-year-old veteran of Nascar, and it is said that he always seems to make a strong finish at the Daytona 500. He has won this race four times in the past. Even if he doesn't place in the top 3 winning slots, it can be said that a 6th-to-12th-place run would be a nice way to start the racing season. He will start the race in the 19th position, and will be driving the UPS decorated car (yes, ladies, really), the #44.
Daytona 500 Starting Lineup:
D. Gilliland #38
R. Rudd #88
T. Stewart #20
K. Busch #2
D. Earnhart, Jr #8

Good luck during the Daytona 500 today, ladies. Keep them guessing.

Hey Jeanne, this is a fun article.
Check out my NASCAR-IZATION of A Nation piece on AC referencing how women and others are changing NASCAR.
thanks mary and a.kairi!! It was fun to write this article :)
very cute article. My BF is absolutely addicted to racing (he does autocross and wants to be a professional driver one day). He's always trying to get me in to it but unfortunately I just couldn't care less and its oh so obvious no matter how hard I try to feign interest. Thanks for this! I'll throw out a couple tidbits next time he starts talking about racing.
Cute article. Great info for those who have not had the pleasure of living in a male-dominated household!
hahaa! thanks, tina!
Go Harvick!
Wow, Nin! You're taking this whole "make my man proud" thing a little too far! (smile) Thanks, Sweetie :)
Hate Tony Stewart, It should have been MARK MARTIN's win but that idiot Harvick just had to be a show off! The only thing missing would have been ol Ryan Newman to start another series of accidents he is so well known for. GO JIMMY #48 Love yer story Jeanne!
HAAA! I once woke up with a hangover and tattoo on my arm, sitting on a huge Harley that I have no idea how I became the proud owner of, gathered with other bikers on the infield at Daytona years ago, and some dude with a new tattoo on his shoulder blade was just sitting there looking around like he was lost!! I still have the Harley.... Naaa, couldn't be the same place ;)
