The Dead Are Coming to Town

A Halloween Poem

Holly Grimes
The dead are coming to town

You'd best pull your window shades down

To hide from the fright

That's afoot this night

The dead are coming to town

They haven't a mercy for out-too-late fools

Creeps and ghouls and things that break rules

They'll find you and fear you

Your neighbors won't hear you

They haven't a mercy for out-too-late fools

As you set out your lantern and lock all your doors

Remember this watch, this night, is all yours

So mind all the shadows

And watch for the ghost glows

As you set out your lantern and lock all your doors

You keep watch for morning's swift light

Once you've survived through the night

And you heave a great sigh

As darkness ending draws nigh

You keep watch for morning's swift light

The dead are coming to town

They're marching the streets up and down

Leave them a treat if you dare

Or hide away while they're there

The dead are coming to town
