The other side of the debate is teens are not responsible enough and their brains are not developed enough to handle the effect of alcohol. It's thought that a teens decisions would be childish and irrational under the influence of alcohol. Aren't teens decisions childish and irrational anyway? Are they not just children with rapid hormones? Yet it is acceptable for them to vote, start a family of their own, and to die for their country?
Something does not add up and changes should be made, but will our country be able to came to a decision? This debate, no doubt will end up like the rest of the nations debates, unsolved and leaving the country divided.
Children will always act out no matter what the government changes, but should we be training our teens, the same teens we have deemed irresponsible, for war and possible death? It just does not seem rational at all.
We allow eighteen year olds to have a say in what happens to our country. Yet we do not trust them in making decisions for themselves. So the government is telling them " Your responsible in the major aspects of life, but not in the smaller issues."
On the other hand, do we really want our sixteen and seventeen year olds to have access to alcohol? Kids this age are still attending school. Grades will most definitely drop, causing enrollment in colleges and universities to decline.
Maybe the government should re-evaluate a lot of the laws and once in for all decide what age is considered to be an adult. Choose an age were there are absolutely no exceptions. The line between child and adult is a foggy one. No wonder children try to grow up before their time. They are given some adult privileges and responsibilities at an early age, so they decide they are an adult and can do everything adults do.
Our nation needs to grow up and made a definite line between kid and adult. It would be the saving grace for our young people.
