Regardless of who gets the nomination and who eventually wins the coveted position of the next President of the United States of America, this is a watershed moment in American history. It is a moment in which America gets the chance to show progress in thought and unity or expose its latent sexism or racism. If indeed the Democratic candidates allow their supporters to choose a republican than one of their own, to sacrifice the government because of race or sex, that would be an awfully sad commentary on the state of America's race and sex relations. That would be a sad day in American history, which will be sure to baffle our progenitors in years to come. I wonder what would they think of us then.
Americas are at an interesting crossroads. The choices are difficult. There is a republican the country would rather not give another term and then there are the dubious choices of a White woman and a Black man. How more interesting a dilemma could there be?
White progressives are put to the test and women will have to show themselves beyond the petulance and weepiness if they lose. Women must learn to accept loss with grace.
It has been a fierce and dirty fight but at the end of the day Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton have to give their supporters the permission to come together under the Democratic tickets and to vote to ensure that the next government will be formed by the Democrats. Anything less will be a travesty of trust and will show the loser as not a good leader and will have proved to the people they have chosen well not to choose him or her as their next President.
America's racism runs deep and many men in the United States still feel that a woman's place is behind a man or in the kitchen with an apron. But American is slipping as the great nation. One way out of this situation is change and a new vision for America. The American people need something to get excited about and either Barack or Hilary may do that. Experience is not what they need but enthusiasm, excitement and hope. Experience is an over-rated requirement. There is no research saying that an experienced person makes a better president than an inexperienced one.
Finally, I have to say that if the American people rise to challenge and vote for Obama, that will pay greater dividends in terms of race unity and giving people a chance to work together and dream together. It will be a chance for America to prove that race does not matter as much anymore and they are working on change.
