The Desert

Alexis Sullivan
His spirit wandered the desert searching. The desert was so barren. Nothing in sight for miles. He needed water. He was going to die. Someone had to save him. Life was just too hard. His wife had left him. His children hated him. He didn't think he could take much more. And just then he received news that his mother had died.

He cried. Someone help me. I'm lost. I'm so alone. This pain is too much. Life continued to pound on him.

He didn't deserve this. He was a good person. He always gave to charity. That was good right? That's what everybody else said. All you had to do was be a good person and good things were supposed to happen to you. So why was his spirit so lost?

Life sent him another curve. He had been fired. And with that last blinding blow. His spirit broke. He fell to the ground. Tears ran down his face. His soul ached with unbearable pain. He tried to crawl forward. But he couldn't, his strength was gone. He looked up and saw a hill covered in green grass. He knew if he could just get there that things would be alright. But he was parched and he needed water.

He looked to the hill once again and this time he saw his Help. He was coming. As time passed his life slowly began to ebb from his soul. He wasn't going to make it. His Help was coming but he was too weak. Please, help me. And with that final thought he fell flat to the ground.

Suddenly he felt cool water streaming down his face. He opened his eyes and stared into the face of The Almighty. He carried with Him a pitcher filled with wonderfully clear water. "Open, your mouth," The Almighty told him. "This water that I give you will become like a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. You will never thirst again."

He opened his mouth and drank deeply of the water that was offered. His spirit was immediately refreshed. His strength was renewed. The Almighty reached down, helped him to his feet, grabbed hold of his hand and lead him through the desert.

He was in awe of the man that stood next to him. A light emitted from Him. It was so powerful he could barely stand to look at Him. Yet He was so beautiful he couldn't stand not to look at Him. Who is this man? He wondered. The Almighty instantly answered, "I am your very present help in times of need. I am the Lamb that was slain for the sins of the world. I am the Prince of Peace. And I have come for you."

Soon they reached a chasm in the ground and on the other side was the hill that he had seen from a distance. The Lamb took the soul in His arms and carried him across. The land was flowing with milk and honey. Holiness covered the land. The Lamb sat on the throne at the top of the hill and said, "Come to me my child."

Immediately he ran to the feet of his Master and poured upon Him the pain that filled his heart. When he had cried all the tears that he could. His Master reached down and pulled him into His arms. His help had finally come. He knew that never again would he feel lost and alone. His Savior had come for him. Grace surrounded him. He knew that he would never have anything to fear. He never wanted to leave. So he didn't. He spent the rest of his days in peace in the arms of his Father.

I think that this was an awesome read. I especially like the connection between hard times and thirst quenching. Please continue to write about Christ and spread the good word. God bless. I'll have to read more later, but this one was good.
