Do the D.E.Y. Deliver on Their Debut Album?

The Reviewer
Divine, Elan and Yeyo make up the hip hop hybrid ground The D.E.Y. The Spanish-Urban group based out of New York has been compared to the Fugees and the Black Eyed Peas based on the group makeup. Will The D.E.Y. be able to deliver on their debut album The D.E.Y. Has Come?

The first single off The D.E.Y. Has Come is the J.R. Rotem produced Give You The World. The song samples Earth, Wind & Fire's hit Fantasy. The song is the perfect single as each member gets their time to shine. The song is extremely catchy, well produced and well performed.

The second single is And I Miss You. The song samples the popular hit by Everything But The Girl Missing. The song is yet another well done track. The D.E.Y. has found a suitable genre for them; re-making old songs into current ones.

Get The Feeling was featured in the popular video game NBA Live 2008. The song is a solid mid-tempo track with a lot of energy. The song showcases each of the members in their strongest light.

I Need You is another well done song. The song features a strong melody and catchy production. The beat just stands out as one of the strongest on the album.

She Said is a song dedicated to the group's mother. The song has a good message however; the delivery just seems to fall short.

Ya Llego features Fatman Scoop and El Chino Dreadlion. The song shows that the group can sing and rap in Spanish however; the song is just average at best.

No Looking Back is a solid acoustic guitar driven track. On the track, Elan sounds very similar to Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger.

Taken features a very similar guitar line to Sting's Shape Of My Heart. The song is a solid track just not one of the strongest on the album.

Dame Un Momento is another scorching up-tempo track. The song is action packed and features a strong beat however; the chorus is severely lacking.

The often delayed The D.E.Y. Has Come is worth the wait. The album features a number of good songs although there is some filler. The star of the album though is definitely the vocalist Elan. Overall The D.E.Y. Has Come gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of The D.E.Y. make sure you pick up The D.E.Y. Has Come when it is available in stores on November 11th.
