The Diabetic Diet Plan

Pat Lunsford
The best diabetic diet plans include foods that are low in sugar and high in nutrition. Fortunately, diabetics have a good variety to choose from today when it comes to foods their body's can manage. The frozen foods department in most all supermarkets have a number of very healthy heat & serve meals that are rich in nutrition and low in salt and sugar, while still containing plenty of flavor. Some of the most popular ones include Healthy Choice, Weight Watchers and Select, just to name a few.

Fruit should be incorporated into a diabetic's diet, but some fruits are extremely high in sugar such as citrus, grapes and pears. These fruits should be eaten sparingly. Berries are packed with antioxidants and many are lower in sugar.

When it comes to produce, different colors symbolize the different nutritional content. Eating a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables insures you of a dependable nutritional balance. Diabetics are urged to eat several small meals a day, therefore, be sure to add a different color fruit or vegetable with each meal.

The diet or sugar-free section in the grocery store keeps getting bigger with each passing month. With obesity being associated with diabetes and obesity levels rising, food makers are catering to the huge demand for good tasting low sugar foods.

Diabetics, should get a balance of nutrition which includes foods such as whole grains, dairy, vegetables/fruit, and lean meats. The vegetables most recommended for a diabetic's diet include:

* Tomatoes: High in lycopene - a cancer fighter
* Cabbage: Fat burner
* Bell Peppers: High in potassium
* Broccoli: High in antioxidants

Cucumbers do not digest well, and have very little nutrition. Choose greener lettuce such as romaine mixed with kale as iceberg lettuce also has very little nutrition and is hard to digest. Foods such as carrots and potatoes turn quickly to sugar and therefore, should be avoided.

Yogurt is high in calcium. Select plain yogurt, and add your own fruit according to your own personal needs. It's a delicious addition to any of your small meals.

Enduring as a diabetic is difficult enough without having to constantly struggle to get the nutrition you need while maintain your sugar level. A bit of creative meal planning can aid in the enjoyment of your food while keeping your sugar level steady.

However, Jesus Christ is the Great Physician and He is touched by the feelings of our infirmities. When He was among us, the sick and lame flocked to Him in groves. He is on the right hand of the Father now and we can still go to Him.

"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Heb.4:15)
