Have you ever needed to know the difference between interior design and decorating? There is a difference between the two. In this article, I will share with you the difference between interior design and decorating. In addition, I will give you ideas for each.

Both interior design and decorating can be fun when you want changes in your home. Picking out new colors, curtains, furniture and more are ways to get your home looking like a million bucks.

What is interior design?

Interior design is designing all spacing within the home. This includes, furniture, floors, lighting, walls, doors, windows, trim work and design pieces.

What is decorating?

Decorating is improving the look of a room or rooms within your home. Change rooms with color, lamps, flowers, portraits, anything to place within your room or rooms to make more beautiful.

How to do interior decorating In Your Home

1 - Flooring

Flooring should be the first thing considered when beginning interior designing. Flooring is the first step in your decorating scheme. Make sure to choose the flooring for each room carefully. Consider how the room is used and how much traffic the floors will receive. You can choose hard wood floors, rugs, carpets and more. If you already have hard wood floors in your home, consider sanding them down and making them new again.

2 - Walls

The walls will be your second step in interior designing. When choosing colors for your wall, consider your families personalities, mood. This will help you decide the right color choices for the rooms in your home.

3 - Furniture

When choosing furniture consider who and what the room is for. Think about the type of furniture that will suit the person's style and taste. Also, consider what the room how the room is used. Computer room, living room, bedroom, etc.

4 - Windows

When considering curtains for your windows, you will to take into account, privacy and how much light you will need in that particular room.

5 - Bedding Ensembles

Choose bedding to match the colors you have chosen for your bedroom. Purchase pillows to match bedding and curtains. Pick out nightstands and dressers that will accent your bedroom. Lamps are a great addition to any bedroom.

6 - Lighting Your Home

Choose lighting by considering the following: mood, decorative, interest and safety. All of these considerations will help you determine what type of lighting you will need for each room.

7 - Artwork

Artwork can be pictures of family, scenes such as, mountains, ocean, country roads, etc. Artwork can really set the mood and describe in detail what your family likes.

8 - Plants

Homes will be more inviting with greenery. Choose real or artificial green plants. This will give your home more color and brighten your days.

How to Decorate Your Home

Walls and Ceilings

1 - Painting your walls can give your home a fresh new look. Trim work can be a lighter or darker shade of the color you chose for your wall. Choose colors that match your personality and the decor you currently have in place.

2 - Putting a fresh coat of paint on a ceiling will brighten your home and give off the illusion of something new.

Accents

1 - Decorate walls and end tables with pictures that show your personality, style and taste.

2 - Place area rugs on floors for added accent.

3 - Place small objects of your choice through out your home. Corner shelves, tables and walls are wonderful places to start.
