The Difference in Brown Bird

M.S.Medina
I wonder what thoughts go round in her head
as she looks at the world and reflects.
She knows she is different from most other kids
and for this I feed the need to protect.

Eyes deep brown like dark chocolate pools
reflect all she has seen and she's heard
She lives in a world unique all her own
to think to intrude is absurd.

My girl is funny and sweet
but her temper flares hot like the sun.
Sometimes her day seems to be over
before it's begun.

Autism is not what defines this child
but it makes her life lonely and hard
She rarely relaxes and enjoys being a child,
she emotionally is always on guard.

My little bird fills my heart up with love
She exasperates me and can make me frown
This child I love so who has so much to give
is my special bird dressed all in brown.

If your child is different
Don't be quick to despair
They will give you much more than they take
Like my bird who needs love in order to live
A great effect on the world they will make.
