The diverse ways of giving gifts include giving Online, by Cash, Check or Credit Card, by Securites, Planned Gifts, Bequests, Real Estate, Appreciated Property, Gifts-n-Kind, Matching Gifts and others. But the quickest way to give a gift is Online at a Secure Site. Many Organizations and Institutions have secure servers to accommodate those who like to give but want to also protect their privacy and financial information. Giving by Check or Cash is simple. The giver will not have to face the possibility of having sensitive financial information compromised.
Then there is the Securities Giving Method. There are different types of Financial Securities that can be a Gift Certificate. Certificate relating to Shares and Stock, for examples, come to mind here. Giving Securities can result in special kinds of tax savings. The giver tax deduction can be based on the market value of the security on the day the transfer of ownership is done. If the gift involves public securities, capital gains tax, for example, on the appreciation in value since the gift was purchased may not have to be paid. Your financial advisor will give you more information about this.
Planned Gift giving provides the opportunity to make a significant gift and guarantee that continued association, for example, with a selected special group of people of your choice will prevail. Planned giving Options include: Bequests by personal Will; Lifetime Trust that pay an income to the gift giver or his/her beneficiary; Gift Annuities which provide a guarantee lifetime income for you or a beneficiary; and Life Insurance Policies assigned to another person, organization or institution. This Approach to Gift Giving is very important when thinking long-term.
The Bequests Giving Principle include, for example, the drafting of a will whereby an attorney tailors the instrument to the needs of a specific client or situation. We are made aware that it sometimes is helpful to the attorney to study forms of bequests to an educational institutional, for example, to make sure the intent of the gift giving is and will continued to be achieved.
Real Estate or land/property giving is very normal even at Christmas time. Some former schools, for example, of the gift giver may be very pleased to accept gifts of appreciated marketable real estate. And, donating real estate can provide considerable tax advantages for the donor or gift giver. Giving land to children and grand children is very normal. Many persons who are perceptive to property ownership will appreciate this kind of gift than the traditional Christmas present.
Appreciated Property such as objects, books, collections, jewelry, and others alike come under the aspect. Rare collections of paintings and automobiles, for examples, are historical favorites of rich Europeans. But these can be gift for anyone. Some people really treasure collectibles and so to give a gift of this nature will be more accepted and appreciated than other usual gifts.
Gifts-n-Kind can be, for example, furniture, office equipment, sports equipment, professional services such as printing and consulting, among others. These kinds of gifts are very practical. If someone is a high school or college sports trainer/coach or personal trainer, for example, the gift of sports equipment is very practical, providing the person requires the gift and does not have a similar workable one that he/she may want to keep.
The Matching Gifts Approach includes the doubling the impact from someone gift giving. For example, some employers will match charitable Christmas (and other Holidays) contributions made by their employees or retirees. The Human Resource Section/Department of an organization will usually have more information on this gift giving principle. Normally, someone will contact the Human Resource Department (HRD) to find out if a matching gift program exist. A matching gift form will then completed and submitted with the gift for the other relevant matching party to give as well. Private companies and individuals are usually the ones associated with this and so a staff member can investigate to discover how he/she can multiply the gift giving they are planning to do.
Therefore, there are different ways to give a gift this Christmas Holiday Season. The traditional way is not the only or best way. The nature and type of gift will depend on some of the factors mentioned above. Each individual, group or organization will need to determine the objectives of the gift they plan to give and to whom they will give. Different gifts for different people and under various circumstances must not be condoned.
