The Discovery Channel's, The Lost Tomb of Jesus

Amy Kreger
A documentary called, "The Lost Tomb of Jesus" is set to air on Sunday, March 4th on the Discovery Channel. According to the documentary, the tombs of Jesus, Mary, Mary Magdalene, and the "Son of Jesus" have been found.

Here is what the Discovery Channel has to say about the program:

"All leading epigraphers agree about the inscriptions. All archaeologists confirm the nature of the find. It comes down to a matter of statistics. A statistical study commissioned by the broadcasters (Discovery Channel/Vision Canada/C4 UK) concludes that the probability factor is 600 to 1 in favor of this tomb being the tomb of Jesus of Nazareth and his family."

The claims of the Discovery Channel are far-fetched and utterly ludicrous. The producers obviously have no regard for statistical accuracy when they state that "All archaeologists confirm the nature of the find." when it is evident that if a Christian archaeologist were to examine the evidence, he would not come to the same conclusion. Are Christians unqualified to be reliable archaeologists because of their Christian faith? Hardly! The Discovery Channel has made a determined effort to negate the claims of Christianity, the Bible, and Christ Himself. Their motivation? An abhorrence for Christianity.

Why is the Discovery Channel so concerned with discrediting the major faith that has so dramatically impacted humanity for the past 2,000 years? Why do they feel they must erode Christianity's fundamental doctrines in the name of science? I wonder why they haven't done a documentary on the errors in the Qur'an or the gluttonous death of Buddha? It seems that Christianity, the faith that teaches faith in Christ will bring an eternal home in heaven and that Christians should love and care for each other, is dangerous. The instigator is obvious: If you believe that the Bible is inspired and authoritative, you will reject the false sciences of humanism and evolution. This, indeed, is dangerous for a company whose chief goal is to "educate" the masses about Godless evolutionary theory.

Furthermore, how can the Discovery Channel have the gall to consider itself reliable in its findings? They are a team of "scientists" and "archaeologists" doing research 2,000 years after the event, with a strong bias towards negating Christianity and its teachings. They obviously deem themselves more trustworthy than the testimony of the apostles, 500 witnesses and Christ Himself, as recorded in the Gospels as well as the book of Acts.

The Discovery Channel has made it their chief aim to denounce Christianity and mock the faith of its millions of followers. They would never dare do this to the followers of Islam or Confucious, but Christianity is fair game. There is a dangerous trend occurring in this country where every conceivable religion and school of thought is protected and respected, except for Biblical Christianity. If one takes an objective look at the degradation of our country in moral values over the last sixty years, and the way Christianity has been suppressed and scorned during that same time period, one would see that as the light of Christ gets increasingly dim, the staining blot of sin in our country becomes increasingly pervasive.

Did it occur to anyone that even if those ossuaries are for real, what's inside of them could have been manipulated by authorities and/or groups who wanted to disqualify the truth about Jesus at any point in time?! In other words, someone could have easily created the so called ossuary of Jesus and put anonymous bones in it back then!!!

Also, from all the ossuaries found claimed to be of the family of Jesus, why only the one of James says "brother of Jesus"?! And that's the only one that was missing!!! That begs the questions "Was it taking away to manipulate the inscriptions on it?!!! Also, was it one of the ones that did not have inscriptions at all?!!!

Furthermore, considering the evidence approach, people seem to forget that the Bible itself and what's written in it is a piece of evidence. That piece of evidence is stronger than the rest. It is the most consistent evidence of all! Therefore, you should go with the most prevalent evidence.

Btw, the new testament was written by the Apostles themselves about 60 to 90 years after the Ascension of Jesus! Contrary to some beliefs of 300 years later or so! The Apostles feared the loss of the message of Jesus Christ as they grew old and the second coming of Jesus had not yet taken place before they died.

Also, if all goes wrong, the Holy Spirit is our last line of defense!

You can't debate anything with these people. Trust me, I've tried. They've been taught to believe, and they readily admit, that scripture is 100% infallible to them and that any scientific finding that contradicts scripture must be a "sensory deception". They've been taught to believe that their abilities as a human being, i.e. deductive reasoning, sensory perception, are easily corrupted and that any time there is alleged "evidence" that contradicts scripture, it must always be false. This is a strange phenomenon that has intrigued uncounted minds over time. I personally subscribe to the theory that this type of behavior is a reaction, stimulated by an intense fear, to humankind's inability to discern exactly what happens to one's consciousness, identity, soul, what have you, after death. I would not apply this to all faithful people as many I have met have seemed to be much more rational, or at the least put more faith humankind's cognitive abilities. Those who would argue alongside

first, there was an active commentary session hosted by Ted Koppel after the airing, and it was a critical look. So the claim of bias really doesn't hold water. The findings were presented to the world as a hypothesis, welcoming scientific scrutiny, unlike religious dogma, which shuns that scrutiny. For example, the science of evolution (which, by the way, is more "proveable" than gravity) As for the documentary, there is more scientific evidence even for their unsure hypothesis then there is for any biblical explanation..
