The Distorted View

Donna Cavanagh
We tend to look at the lives of others
And see a picture perfect existence
But when we move in closer, a new image forms
So much different than what we see from a distance

The lens of jealousy distorts our view
The world far away looks more inviting
The details get blurred and so our imaginations take over
What up close is ordinary; from a distance is exciting

We need to beware of the lens in our mind
We need to keep tabs on what is real and what is illusion
We project our desires on the lives of others
So often our emotions play games of delusion

Go ahead and enjoy the lives of others
But adjust your lens often for a clearer view
What might seem like a life of sheer perfection
Is often a mirage that is more false than true
