The Donald vs Rosie: Will They Finally Shut Up and Make Up

Now that the multi-billionaire has waged all-out war on "The View's" Rosie O'Donnell - and seemingly the Hollywood community that sees things a little more to the left of center, if you know what I'm talking about - there has been no real shortage of news directed at either O'Donnell, or anyone in her camp.

In a two-week long battle in which The Donald has said that he has some "girl friends" who could come in and steal away Rosie's female significant other, among other things-the public seems at the moment to be angry one way or the other on the subject, though Trump's show "The Apprentice" seems to be taking the biggest hit in the ratings.

Meanwhile "The View" is skyrocketing in terms of ratings, receiving a whopping 77 last week as co-host O'Donnell-after her now-famous and ridiculous talk on the Chinese language and anything else under the morning sun-shut the hell up and went on vacation, thankfully.

The whole thing started when O'Donnell as co-host claimed two weeks ago that perhaps The Donald should go back to what he's good at, real estate, and get away from television, since ratings for his "Apprentice," in her view had "tanked."

The only tank that arose from that, according to The Donald, were the lines of clunky Shermans he had amassed at the corner of Fat and Ugly. The battle was about to begin, but before any war is to happen the warring factions must assemble troops and prepare written statements-this helps to create a proper public image.

The Donald wasted little time doing either-he then made comments to several sources regarding O'Donnell's weight and looks-and continued going after O'Donnell, even as she went on vacation. The Donald took no such break in the war, showing his mug on "Today" on NBC as well as CNN.

He said Rosie's boss Barbara Walters called on him for a truce; it never happened. In all reality it may have been O'Donnell's comments about "The Apprentice" that did the most damage-and that's likely why The Donald went on his battle, titled Mission: Damage Control.

Even pop star Madonna has come to O'Donnell's aid, saying that the madness must "stop." But The Donald will apparently have none of that-and now embattled and ex-The View employee Star Jones has come to his defense (defense of what, I have no idea.) And on the set of "Today,"-after Madonna had appeared to make a public statement in support of her friend O'Donnell, Cybill Shepherd waited in the wings to have some words with the pop star. According to sources, they didn't seem to be those of the kind variety.

Then this week it was the Tourettes-like and sporty shock-talk voice of Jim Rome booming on the airwaves, in his nationally syndicated "Jim Rome Show"-with overwhelming support of The Donald, calling Trump's letter to Rosie "pure genius," among others. He even pre-empted his regularly scheduled programming to throw in a few insults at O'Donnell.

And like Rome, who couldn't and wouldn't shut up even if you stuck a sock in his mouth (because he could still talk out of the sides of his mouth and possibly somewhere else), The Donald has continued his barrage-with no end in sight. He's getting more information in than a P.R. hack-or a ghostwriter.

Not to say that Trump is using a ghostwriter to do his dirty work-no one really knows, but it does seem odd that he has not let up, not even for a minute in his quest to muck up O'Donnell. He has attacked her from every possible public relations angle-and from the looks of things, the bloggers, er...the public is growing tired of his incessant letter-writing and Rosie-bashing campaign.

They seem to be likening the actions to bullying-and even Rome indicated on his show that Trump just seemed to be the bigger of the two bullies in the fight. The World Wrestling Experience, or WWE even devoted a significant portion of its airtime to the battle, employing two celebrity look-alikes to go at one another-and throw some wicked forearms, much like it would be in real life.

But the O'Donnell supporters are now getting most of the say-and the support-in the war in spite of Rosie taking a hands-off approach to the whole deal. She is now garnering support from such people like The View host Barbara Walters (and Rosie's boss) despite Trump's efforts to the contrary, Madonna's afore-mentioned "Rosie Crusade" and basically all of Hollywood, the majority of the trailer courts in America and most of San Francisco.

Several weeks later-and after many opening salvos were fired, The Donald did write to O'Donnell-while Rosie sunned with her love, Kelly, on their vacation. "Please give my warmest regards to your wife, Kelly," The Donald said in the letter, penned with obvious doses of sarcasm since O'Donnell's partner and she are not married. Yeeeowch!

The Donald also told O'Donnell "After your (maniacal and foolish) rant against me two weeks ago, Barbara called me from her vacation (I did not call her) in order to apologize for your behavior." The letter went on to say that Walters had heard that The Donald wanted to "retaliate" and she wanted The Donald to get on the show "as soon as (O'Donnell) got back so that she could patch things up."

No word on whether or not The Donald-or O'Donnell-will finally shut up and make up, though as the third week of fighting comes to a close there really is no end in sight.
