The Doomed Jayhawker
The doomed Jayhawker begged his bushwhacker captors, "Please don't hang me from a cottonwood." The rough bunch of Missourians thought this request amusing. They loaded the Kansan on the back of a mule and drove him to Turkey Creek where they hung him from a springy willow and watched as he bounced, bobbed and choked his way to an agonizing demise. One grizzled old coot was heard to remark, "Them Kansas boys is a funny stack o' faggots."
