As we all know, the housing boom has forever changed the real estate industry making modern homes from a few years back seem so obsolete. Let's take this house of 2,200 square feet and is less than a decade old and sits on an 8,000 square feet lot which is a decent size. So what makes this house different from the recently developed houses? That's easy, houses nowadays are getting bigger and bigger and yet the lot sizes remain the same. So what does that mean? You have a 4,400 square foot house on a 5,000 square foot lot. Not much of a backyard huh? The question is do we need that big of a house? The answer for most people is no which is a reason why a certain number of people are downsizing and moving to a smaller house.
Guys are always saying bigger is better for obvious reasons right? And no wer are not talking about that particular item. We are talking cars. The concept of engines being bigger is better because it can produce more horsepower thus leaving everyone in the dust but in order for a car to have a bigger engine, automakers had to make the car itself to be bigger to be able to hold the engine and carry the weight thus putting a larger whole in our pockets because a larger engine means you having to hit the gas pump more often. Remember way back when cars were so small but nowadays cars are so massive in size that you need a ladder to climb into the car. So the question is what's the big deal with having such big cars? The answer is that the cars are getting bigger but the parking spaces especially in Asian shopping centers aren't. The developers sure do like to cram as many parking spaces as they can in a confined space which is problematic because even old small cars find it to be tight. So with even bigger cars make it impossible to even get out of your car because it's just too cramped and don't even get started on all of the cars that aren't even parked straight so they take up 2 or even 3 parking spaces!
But let's not take this the wrong way, you know we all love the concept of bigger is better but we should know our limits because if you're going to make something bigger then you need to compensate for its size in increase by making everything else bigger as well but that's not going to happen.
