The Dream

Eric Hubbard
Above the horizon of the lagoon

Rises the stunning, summer moon.

Across the water, the memories flow

With thoughts of love, from long ago.

As the pain begins to rise

From memories deep inside,

The heartache stabs and burns,

And his tortured, desperate soul yearns.

Pondering thoughts that are so deep

Upon the shore he doth sleep.

She comes to him in his dream

A tear, in his eye begins to gleam.

The pain of loss so fresh and raw,

Answers quickly to her call.

The pain that comes to his heart

Clears his mind, his thoughts depart.

He awakens from his slumber

The full moon, he is under.

Shivering with regrets and the cold,

Feeling weak, tired, and very old.
