The Dream Endures

Matt Hawk
It is the celebration of a dream
that didn't begin with one man.
A dream that endured generations of
Hatred,
Slavery,
Fear.

It is the celebration of bravery.
Of a woman who refused to stand for prejudice,
but sat bravely in the face of society,
pursuing the dream.

It is the memory of those gone before.
A memorial to the cries of the oppressed.
A time to honor those who fled cruelty,
to begin a new life and continue the dream.

It is the inspiration found in the words of the determined.
The moving oratory of the resolute,
and their unwavering commitment in the face of evil.
It is Black History Month.

As the years go by and the dream is realized,
we will continue to honor those who came before,
and celebrate those yet to come.
