The Dream of Life or Rather the Dream of Death

She Knew What it Meant or Did She

She still couldn't shake the previous night's dream. She had so many dreams in the past but this one was just way too real. It was as if she were really living it.

It all started when she went to sleep early due to a bad headache. The dream began with her standing in the middle of an open field with flowers and green grass and beauty all around. Then suddenly she was running through a dark tunnel trying to get to the light at the end. From there she was again standing in the same field, but this time the grass was brown and the flowers were withered.

These two scenes played over and over in her dream until finally she was back in her apartment. However, she had the strange feeling she was not alone. Suddenly she was sitting at her table opposite a tall very handsome stranger. They were having a romantic dinner and drinking wine.

As suddenly as he appeared the tall handsome stranger disappeared. Yet she still felt as if someone was watching her. She got up from the table and went to get ready for bed. As she brushed her hair an old woman with a sad looking wrinkled face appeared in her mirror. She turned to find no one behind her but the woman was still in the mirror. It was as if the woman wanted to tell her something but she could not hear her.

The woman in the mirror was getting frantic but she could not figure out what she was trying to tell her. Suddenly the woman disappeared and the mirror exploded into a million pieces. She started picking up the glass but cut her finger on a piece.

As she went to get a band-aid she noticed a little girl in the living room. The little girl was crying. No matter how hard she tried the little girl could not say anything to her. The little girl just kept crying and pointing to her. It was as if she was trying to tell her something also but she could not speak. The child was getting frantic just like the old woman. Finally the little girl got up as if to leave but seemed to just disappear into thin air.

For what seemed like ages all of these things kept repeating themselves over and over until finally she was standing at a grave. She was looking at the headstone but not really seeing it. Finally she looked at the grave and then looked at the headstone again. That is when she realized she was looking at her own grave.

With a start she awoke in a cold sweat. Exactly what had this dream meant? As she got out of bed she realized her mirror was broken. She rushed into the kitchen where she found two empty plates and two empty wine glasses. As she went into the living room she noticed crumpled tissue lying on the floor directly in front of where the crying girl was sitting in the dream. She looked at her finger and had a fairly bad cut on it.

On her way to work she saw on her right a beautiful field with green grass and beautiful flowers. Up ahead she saw on her left another field with brown grass and the flowers were withered.

Just then she noticed detour signs ahead and she had to take a route she had never taken before. On that route she had to go through a very dark and long tunnel. But she could see the light at the end of it.

When she finally exited the tunnel she noticed a graveyard on her right. There was a funeral going on there. As she slowed to look she realized that it was all of her friends and family standing around the grave. Suddenly a little girl slowly emerged from the crowd. She realized that the little girl was herself at around ten years of age. The little girl was crying and trying to point at and tell her something but she could not hear her.

What was going on? Suddenly, as if someone had switched on a light, she realized just what the dream meant or did she? Whether she knew the meaning or not, she still couldn't shake the previous night's dream. Or was she still having it?
