The Dream Warriors

Bo Gorcesky
There is a dimension far beyond our own realm of time and space, in a land far beyond rational thought. It can not be reached by foot or air, but by the imagination. In this realm lays Axban, a hidden village where dreams of splendor are made. Surrounding all of Axban is the huge kingdom of Dundok, the kingdom of nightmares. In it's center a huge castle floats on

thundering storm clouds in the sky. The castle, and much of this realm is ruled by the evil Knight Mare, a powerful, evil man in black and red armor who creates fear and dark thoughts.

As long as evil exists, Castle Dundok will stay afloat on those thoughts. He relies on fear to keep him alive. He is a wicked soul that manipulates beings in our realm with his evil. The more they take in, the more they manifest themselves into mindless, disgusting, rotting, green, soldiers in Knight Mare's dimension called Boogeymen. The dark Knight also enlists in the aid of his two most trusted drones named Lady Morgan and Dunthorp.

Morgan is an evil sorceress yet very affectionate of Knight Mare. Legend has it that the two knew one another in the real world, back in the days of knights and chivalry. The Baroness of Evil's job is to come up with the ideas of nightmares and the ability to transcend them into people with her sorcery. Dunthorp is a horriably scarred and disfigured hunchback yet he possesses a heart more loyal than any other in this realm. He existed in Dundok even before Knight Mare and Lady Morgan arrived that fateful day. He makes the perfect comedy relief of the group, and at times the most charismatic. He will do anything for them if commanded.

In these dark times, the people of Axban must fight back against the tyrannical rule of Knight Mare before he conquers all of the Dreamworld. Not many of them are powerful so they search out within our world for a hero, a champion of justice that will right Mare's evil ways. The citizens of Axban become in need of Guidor, an Axbanian who possesses the ability to speak to people in our world through dreams. Recently, he was captured by Mare and now is being tortured within his dungeon. So a select few of Axban's townsfolk must rescue him from Castle Dundok.

The elected warriors of Axban are Paploo the wise, Bronck the strong, and Spreec the fast. The three sneak into Castle Dundok and free Guidor. Then they're chased by countless

swarms of Boogeymen. Luckily they're able to hide in the woods nearby. But Knight Mare is furious for having his prize stolen and plans an attack on Axban for revenge. Meanwhile, back in the safety of the forest, Guidor is on his last breath, his last days in the castle were spent with much torture by Knight Mare and his toady Dunthorp. With his last ounce of energy, he contacts someone from our world that meets the credentials of a hero.

In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; young William Dunn, a small and scrawny boy of brown hair and eyes, is having his normal nightmares about his abusive stepfather. Luckily a beam of light shreds those dark nightmares into a beacon from Guidor. William escapes and transports in front of a dying Guidor and the others. The boys fill him in on where he is and what he must do. William notifies them that he has always loved tales of valor like in the Knights of the Round Table, but he is no hero.

So begins a task for the three Axbanians to train William in the ways of the Dreamworld. The young boy learns the values of wisdom, strength and speed from his friends while he encounters three great trials. He tries his hardest on each yet fails horribly. The warriors try to explain to him that Dreamworld is what you make it, but William cannot harness the power that is within this realm. The adventurers are running out of time fast as their home of Axban is about to be overtaken by Knight Mare. They see in the sky the flying fortress Castle Dundok with a horde of Boogeymen destroying everything in their path..

They have no choice but to head back and fight. Regardless of the fact that their hero is not properly trained and Guidor was wrong, they must plunge into battle. The three Axbanians take on the endless army of Boogeymen, William stays on the side lines and witnesses all of the other Axbanians getting crushed. It becomes too much for him to handle and something erupts within him. The loss of his friends causes a light to pour out from his heart and it engulfs his whole body. It fades away and what remains is Validor, a tall man with blonde hair and blue eyes standing in a suit of sterling silver armor .

Knight Mare notices another knight plowing through his army of Boogeymen. He sees something in Validor that makes him remember of his past life. Lady Morgan wants to crush Validor to pieces with the Boogeymen, but Mare remains still and contemplates. He becomes envious of Validor, and even begins to hate him for bringing up old memories of his past.

Lady Morgan notices a weakness in her former love and attacks him for being a fool. She uses her sorcery to turn the Boogeymen on their former master. Knight Mare becomes overwhelmed and swarmed by the army. Validor tries to help but it becomes too much for him also. Dunthorp then comes to the rescue and saves his master, Morgan retaliates with one huge spell that is enough to blast them all off their plain of existence. The explosion is aimed towards the heroes, but Mare absorbs it and fires back at Morgan. The blast is so critical it knocks everyone on their feet. Killing Morgan and severely wounding Mare.

After the dust settles, a weak Knight Mare lays on the ground. Dunthorp comes to his master's aid and helps remove his destroyed armor. It was the redemption of Knight Mare and actions of Validor that help bring prosperity back to Dreamworld. With his dying breath, Knight Mare announces he wants Dunthorp to rule in his place as a good king of the people. He tells the hunchback that he is the rightful heir of the kingdom. Mare was too manipulated by evil for all these years he stole the kingdom right from underneath Dunthorp, but now it goes to the one that deserves it most. The disfigured hunchback agrees as tears roll down his cheeks. Knight Mare fades from his arms and into another plain of eternal resting.

The Boogeymen, no longer under the control of their masters, fade away like dust in the wind. Castle Dundok no longer has fear to live on so it crashes into the earth. William gathers the remaining Axbanians to make sure they're safe including his three good friends. They're very proud of what he has become and glad to see good conquered evil. They send him back home and let him know if he ever wants to return, all he has to do is dream. It is only between imagination and reality does the realm of Dreamworld exist.
