The Dreamer

Lisa R. Strong
When I was young and so full of life;
I dreamed of singing under the lights;
I would buy a house for my mom;
And get her out of that situation;
I would spend the whole winter under a palm;
The one that I love would be here on my arm;
In a little white house with a picket fence;
And a backyard full of puppies and children;
Life can be hard, and it sometimes it's cruel;
Fate never plays by anyone's rules;
I was blind to all the warning signs;
The devil had come out to play;
And somehow I have lost my way;

His hair is as black as the midnight sky;
I want him so badly, and I don't know why;
He will only leave me to go on to another;
But I long to feel the touch of his skin;
Waist deep in the water that he drags me in;
Yet he never loved me, so why should I even bother
And the family is questioning me about my life;
Why haven't I gone on to be somebody's wife?
I can't say that I have all the answers;

Something very sad happens when you get old;
Reality sets in and dreams can grow cold;
Living life for right now is all that really matters;
Burning with passion and drowning in grief;
I look to the sky to get a little relief;
Dreams of evening fade away in the morning;
But I can dream...I still dream...
