Yes, a series was made... and no- I did not like it... Harry did not have his duster trench coat or his blue beetle... just to name a few minor disappointments I had.
However, the books are great.... Have you read them? You should.
Storm Front
Harry Dresden is the best ... can you be the best when you are the only one? In his case, yes. Harry Dresden can be found in the Chicago yellow pages under the W's.... specifically Wizards. Chicago P.D. had caught a case that makes little sense to a rational mind... so enters consultant, Harry Dresden. He does understand the ill rational goings ons as they are typically of a supernatural nature. He can stop...what needs stopping with more than handcuffs and bullets. Can he stop the black magic practitioner before he stops Harry?
Fool Moon
Yeah, for Harry... we have a series! How can a wizard make rent without business? A man, even a wizard, needs clients. Last minute reprieve... a murder happened (sorry for the victim... but really, I am all about Harry)... a gruesome murder. The only clues are strange looking paw prints... and the title of this book is Fool Moon... can you guess where this one is headed?
Grave Peril
Harry is Harry. He is pretty much used to supernatural baddies and is not often taken by surprise. However, in this installment, Chicago's ghost population has just gone blooming loony. It is up to Harry to determine the reason for such ghostly violence and stop it before Harry winds up one of them.
Summer Knight
This is my favorite of the series. Harry is despondent over the loss of his vampire girlfriend. As the saying goes, nothing mends a broken heart better than time and a busy schedule... Harry undertakes a mission for the Winter Queen (one scary lady... even in the written word) to determine who murdered the Summer Queen's Summer Knight (basically, her right hand man) before the Winter Queen is charged with the crime. I enjoyed this book so much I named my cat, Fix. Read the book to find out why.
Death masks
A day in the life of Harry makes one appreciate one's life a bit more profoundly. This book brings Harry up against assassins, searching for the Shroud of Turin (yes- that Shroud) and a vampire champion wants him dead. Oh, and his girl friend returns.
Blood Rites
This one was my least favorite... but that is only because is it set in the adult film industry... not something I enjoy reading about. However, it is still Harry and Harry makes anything readable. In this tale, Harry and Thomas, his vampire friend (!!!) discover shocking truths.
Dead Beat
I love the title for this one... it is all about a necromancer. The play on words still brings a chuckle to my lips. Alas, in Harry's world there is always a catch... before he can take on the big bad necromancer, he first must locate the Word of Kemmler.... Whatever that is. This book has one of my favorite fight scenes! Have I mentioned Bob, the talking skull? Well, he is not really a talking skull but a ... oh, come on now... are you reading the series yet?
Proven Guilty
Harry has spent most of his life looking over his shoulder for the White Counselor Warden, Morgan. Morgan's job is to make sure Harry does not break any of the White Council's Laws of Magic. Morgan has always been about the black and white, whereas Harry resides in the truth pool of gray. Therefore, you can only imagine his trepidation when he finds himself a Warden and must investigate why movie monsters are coming to life. The council wants him to find the culprit(s) at whatever cost.
White Night
Getting into the grove of "being a Warden" is what Harry has been working on. He is then assigned to investigate the deaths of the several magic practitioners. All of the victims lacked the ability to become full-fledged wizards, so what is really going on? All evidence points to... Thomas... read the series to find out why this is so distressing. (See my summary for Blood Rites.)
Small Favor
In the tenth installment- Queen Mab (remember the scary lady from Summer Knight?) calls in a favor from Harry. So much for some peace and relaxation. Off he ventures on a quest where he will encounter deadly enemies and an untrustworthy ally. "Small Favor. Because, y'know, Harry still owes two." - Jim Butcher Small favor, indeed
Turn Coat
The last person Harry expects to knock on his door is the one who needs his help the most. Accused of treason against the Wizards of the White Council, Warden Morgan turns to Harry for help in saving his life and clearing his name. This book was my second favorite of this series. Harry is finally coming to learn what everyone else always has... he is one badass good and powerful wizard who follows his own code about what is right and just.
