The Drowning

high above the rocky shores

where a dead man rides the waves

bows his head into the surf

in deference to the tides

red sun glitters as it dips

soaking rays of death

watching the ocean threaten

to dispatch its latest victim

holding you by the throat

as you thrashed like a champion bull

did the salt taste sweet

in your last moments of life?

now I watch above the shore

as your bloated hull lies buoyed

just another moment here

then I'll walk away.
