The Duggers , John and Kate, and Political Correctness
An Outsider Looking In
I feel it is my duty to inform the reading public that I am not a television watching type person. The Discovery channel occasionally and some MSNBC is about it. Saying this, I made a decision to watch some of the shows I've been hearing about to see what, if anything this hype was about (mistake number one). After, I was talking to a group of friends about them (mistake number two), and looking up online what the rest of the population was thinking I'm an info hound.
I also have to mention that these are just my opinions. Nothing more nothing less.
A better form of this main question is:
When a family is in the public spotlight is it really unreasonable to ask other's to not comment on them?
Yes, I truly and wholly think that it is unreasonable to think that when people for whatever reason choose to place themselves in the limelight that others do not understand why we, the public would dare comment on them. These people understood at least in some capacity that if they sign up for a reality television show that people out there who will watch that show will comment and talk. It's word of mouth advertising at it's simplest.
When a family such as the Duggers and John and Kate thrust their family into the spotlight, they should expect criticism. Their fan base should also understand that they put themselves into the situation. That criticism should be expected, that yes, some people are indeed put off by these people.
But what about the children?!
Society has heard this one argument so many times it's now an official cliche. We didn't put those kids there. Their parents, the ones whom supposedly have their best interest at heart that did this them. Society is but an observer watching through the fishbowl.
But what do you have against the >family name

So... It's okay to have a mom get a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction for FREE and have her stomach all over national TV and not okay for a woman to completely cover herself at all times? As I would never want to have that many children, I would go insane, it is not our business how they want to lead their lives. Yes, the older children care for the young children. I was one of those young children. I am the youngest of 7. If you don't like what is on TV, don't watch it. And how can you compare Kate and Michelle? Kate only loves herself and her money (look at her plastic body and face and clothes) whereas the Dugger's do live "frugally". This family has NO DEBT at all. Why go into debt because you have to have Ralph Lauren, GAP, Old Navy, etc..... clothing. It's not all about physical appearance or the clothes you wear. With the Dugger's, it's all about loving God first, self second, family third.

to the many people of the united states that have as many kids as they can simply wanting more money from the goverment,what happen`s to the kid`s when they show a lot of promise and drive.do you have some of this money set aside for there college,I think not your spending it right now on your pleasures,children are a blessing yes indeed,But when you cant give them a quality upbringing,good food ,clothing ,shelter,education,college than why do it you morons
I really have to wonder why people are getting so upset about the goings on of another family. People focus too much on what others are doing or how they are doing it when they need to worry more about themselves and their own lives. People refuse to see their own flaws while constantly critisizing others.
In regards to 'Joan's' comments, why get so upset about a family that is happy?? I would be more upset if they were physically and mentally abusing the kids. Because you do not agree on their views, does not mean that it is wrong.

I am re-typing my other comment because it did not print correctly. You totally missed the point!! Holding hands is not the issue. The issue is that it is the mother's responsibility to watch her kids, not her older kids responsibility to watch the younger kids. She should ot be leisurely walking thru Times Square without a care in the world! So answer this, who IS wathcing the kids. The KIDS are watching the kids, not the parents. How can you justify that???? Also, if you think she left the family because she was feeling sick, well, I'm sure that was not an isolated incident. She left to go get something different to eat. Why didn't she stay with the family and send someone else to get her something other than pizza? Isnt's she the one who should be minding her family, not going off for some alone time. Again, she uses her older children to watch the little kids. When I was pregnant and sick, I had to buck up and be an adult and be a mother 100% of the time. Sh

I definitely believe it is wrong. It is child exploitation all around. They say they put God first in their lives, but Jesus put children first in His. These people have a great money making venture and child labor!

I like the Duggers very much. I like the fact that God is first in their lives. I am in agreement with much of what they do.
