The Dyson DC 14 Vacuum Cleaner: Finally a Vacuum that Sucks in a Good Way

Andrea Rowe
Many women have already discovered the power of a Dyson. I wanted to buy one for several years after hearing about how wonderful these machines are but have been financially challenged. This year when our taxes came in, my husband and I finally agreed we would try a more expensive vacuum. This Dyson DC 14 vacuum was the one luxury we allowed ourselves and thus far it has been completely worth it.

We tried vacuum after vacuum throughout the years. In August 2010, we will celebrate eight years of marriage. With each year, it seemed we had to buy a new vacuum cleaner and none of them would get the job done very well. It was infuriating to be a mom to children 18 months apart in age and have dirty floors no matter how many times I vacuumed them. Most of the vacuums we used were inexpensive but some were not. We splurged on one that cost almost as much as our Dyson DC 14 and it actually caught fire. This incidence of fire made me terrified to buy a Dyson but I ultimately agreed.

The Dyson DC 14 is great because it is so slender it fits into places other vacuums cannot. As my husband turned the button on, I could hear the difference. I knew this vacuum was going to clean our floors and clean it did. We had to empty the machine twice while cleaning. Our previous vacuum was a Eureka Altima. We used the Altima three days before the Dyson arrived by UPS and our floors continued to be dirty enough to require two incidences of emptying the canister.

We bought a refurbished Dyson so the cost was less expensive than it would have been new. I cannot sing the praises of this machine enough. It actually picks up hair and that is a good thing since my husband, daughter, and I all have long hair and shed. Our rooms are mostly standard size with five rooms in the house containing carpet. I vacuumed the entire house in fifteen minutes. Best of all the Dyson DC 14 is lightweight and easy to use. I no longer dread vacuuming.

If only Dyson could come up with a machine that would make our old linoleum look as clean as it did for our old carpeting.

The only thing wrong with this article is you didn't give us the price you had to pay. Johnny Yuma

Great review! I have been putting off writing a review of my vacuum, and you've inspired me to finally do it! And, finally, am I the only one who thinks that vacuum is a silly word? Two u's right next to one another is just ridiculous!! ;-)
