The Burnt Toast of the Town

Thomas Cleveland Lane
jack be
quick, and jack
be nimble, jack
jumped over
a silver thimble, only
to land
on his face or someplace
around there, nearby. relax, he
didn't quite die, at
least, so they say in
a scene from the play, where
tap
dancing pigs ate
truffles and figs, while
trampolines just
gathered dust.

impossible dreams remain
what they seem, but,
settling for something
quite near to
the top, i somehow contrived
to find a
good rhyme for orange pop.
i don't wish
to quarrel or rest
on my laurel, though
buttering bread to
feed to the dead is
wasteful, yet do it i
will. still,
unknown to those who have
too many toes,
i pocketed all of the crust.

One of the most wonderful things about 'free associations' is that they don't cost much... but can be (and this one is) very entertaining!
