The Eagle Cries: A Poem in Tribute to Our Servicemen and Women
In Response to the 911 Attack and Subsequent War
by Charisse Van Horn
Hold the flag
Wave it high
Look up into the turquoise skies
The ash is gone
America stands
So why does the eagle cry
The nations raged
We went to war
To find the proof
To settle the score
But yet, the eagle cries
Freedom rings throughout the land
Liberty and justice is at hand
Home of the brave
Land of the free
Where people come
To live the dream
And still the eagle cries
We've pledged the pledge
We've sung the songs
We live to right
What went wrong
So why does the eagle cry
A tear
For those who've died
