The Early Bird

John Smither
Has spring arrived early?

For I can hear

The cooing of some birds

The weather just lately

It has been appalling

No fresh shoots

Nothing new showing

The weather

More suited to boots

This bird I can hear

Is it merely a false alarm?

An early bird

Definitely missing

The worm

Perhaps it is lost?

I suggest you

Fly off to somewhere warm

Before you too catch a cold

Or something else

Decides to catch you
