The Easy Guide to Growing Pumpkins

S. Morris
I am what you could call a "beginner gardener". Though this is true, I do have some experience to growing pumpkins. These vegetables are actually quit easy to grow and care for. So using this guide, will help you get going an easy way!

Getting Started

The best way you can get started with your pumpkin growing is picking the right spot in your yard. A sunny location. With light " yard traffic", will work wonders. Also picking what you want them to grow in. I chose a planter box, which has worked for me. You can start in the ground also. Now to pick what pumpkin type you will be choosing to plant. As there are many varieties. Such as Baby Boo, Munchkin, Spooktacular, and many more!

Planting

Now to plant your seeds. Start by filling the planter box with soil ( all-purpose or vegetable soil), or work the dirt of the area you intend to plant in, adding soil as you work it,. Now, in small mounds, about 6-8 inches apart, place 4-5 seeds in the top, about an inch or so in. Now cover lightly. Patting the top lightly also. When you are done planting your desired amount. Water thoroughly. Though not to wet!

Care

Care and management of these plants. Is very minimal and easy. Water thoroughly, after the top soil is dry to the touch. In no time at all, about a week or so you will see your little sprouts popping through the soil. After they start to grow, which is a bit rapid. The only thing you need to worry about doing, besides the watering, is if you want to train them to grow a certain way, then every time you water, keep maneuvering them to your desired position.

Like I said, in my opinion, very easy to grow. I have enjoyed so far every bit of it. My children and I watching the new growth every day , is very rewarding and fun! I hope this guide will help you achieve your pumpkin planting goals!

If you are good with pumpkins, maybe you want to try watermelons next year! Just that easy, too.
