The Easy Way to Get a Runic Heartwood Fletcher's Kit: Ultima Online

The Runic Heartwood Fletcher's Kit is a much coveted item for making high end PVP (player vs. player) bows. Getting a Heartwood Fletcher's Kit is extremely difficult, less than a 1 in 10,000 chance from doing the quests offered in Heartwood in Yew by the Fletcher. However there is a method to make getting Heartwood Fletcher's Kits easier.

First, buy 1,000 bolts from an NPC Fletcher, then go to Heartwood in Yew, Trammel. Once there talk to the Elven NPC Fletcher until you receive the quest called Lethal Darts. Separate out 10 crossbow bolts and then mark the 10 bolts as a quest item. Turn in the quest to the NPC Fletcher. You will receive a craftsman's satchel with a fletching kit, a recipe, talisman or a magic item inside.

To simplify the process make a UO assist macro to click on the NPC Fletcher with one keystroke. You can get the quest Lethal Darts only once every minute to two minutes. Once you have completed the Lethal Darts quest, wait until two minutes have passed then cycle through the quests offered by the NPC until you are offered Lethal Darts again. There is an internal cool down or waiting period before the quest will recycle again, knowing this will save you a lot of effort.

The benefit of this method is that you save time, money and effort not to mention lots of keystrokes. No skill is required to turn in the quest Lethal Darts and you will not need to buy any other materials than crossbow bolts. Considering that a Runic Heartwood Fletcher's kit sells for at least 17,000,000 gold pieces on most shards, the crossbow bolts are well worth the cost. The main issue is how much time you will spend waiting for the quest and doing turn ins to get your heartwood Fletcher's kit.

While you are waiting for the quest to recycle you could work your skills up, complete tailoring bulk order deeds or do some of the other quests that are offered in Heartwood. I found my method reliably yields runic Fletcher's kits and profits for the least amount of effort.
