The Economic Effects of Legalizing Marijuana

MisterSteve
With the new administration comes a new discussion of the economic effects of legalizing marijuana. While the United States has looked down upon marijuana and marijuana use for many years, it has recently become somewhat of an en vogue item, with a multitude of pundits and politicians claiming that the legalization of marijuana can help repair the economy and allow individuals to enjoy newfound prosperity. Whatever your position on the argument might be, it is easy to see that there are strong economic effects and benefits of legalizing marijuana.

Legalizing marijuana and subsequently taxing marijuana can have a tremendous effect on the United States economy, as well as the economy of other nations around the world. By taking advantage of the tremendous demand for a product that is already in circulation, the government could benefit from taxes on marijuana, a highly popular product that everyone and his brother enjoys on a regular basis.

Despite the economic benefits, there are all manner of individuals who will make the case that marijuana is inherently bad and that it will cause the downfall of Western civilization as we know it. Legalizing marijuana can make or break an economy, as witnessed by Amsterdam, an area that legalizes many drugs and allows tourists to enjoy these types of drugs in certain locations. With tourists flooding into Amsterdam strictly to enjoy the high grade of marijuana products in the area, it becomes readily apparent that there is all manner of money to be spent on the average popular mind altering substance.

Regardless of individual opinions of marijuana and the effects that it has on the individual, there is a greater conversation and dialogue to be dealt with dealing with the effect of legalization on the economy, society and a multitude of other considerations. With the new administration dead set on legalizing marijuana, it becomes clear that one of the most contentious subjects in the world has suddenly become one of the most publicly discussed matters in the United States.

For the most part, it is easy to see that the economy has much to do with this new discussion of legalizing marijuana. For those who are dead set against the legalization of marijuana, it seems like something of an uphill battle. For those who are more than happy to partake in a newly legalized product, it seems that they might get their wish sooner, rather than later. Regardless of the final outcome, the discussion on legalizing marijuana has only just begun.
