As an antioxidant glutathione works on free radicals (unpaired, highly reactive atom or group of atoms) preventing them from attacking and damaging molecules like DNA and other parts of cells. It is a protector of the body cells. It also works against viruses and bacteria and assist other antioxidants like vitamin E and C to protect and repair against cell damages. When cells are healthy the body will function at its maximum with increased energy and a sense of well being.
Glutathione gives a powerful boost to the immune system making it stronger and more effective in fighting off colds, flu and other infections. Glutathione also helps to eliminate carcinogens and prevents the everyday stressors of life from lowering the body's immune system.
Glutathione works to detoxify the body by combining and transforming with toxic chemicals, medications and pollutions and excreting them through the urine and bile. This detoxification cleanses the system, strengthens the body and slows down the aging process. It also improves body functions and increases mental capacity.
Another benefit of glutathione is its use and popularity as a skin whitener. Glutathione works to whiten the skin by blocking the action of tyrosinase, an enzyme that reverses the action of melanin, causing dark pigmentation to become lighter. Glutathione makes the skin color lighter, smoother and more radiant. The effects of glutathione on the skin will be noticeable in two weeks. To maintain the lighter skin tone it will be necessary to take glutathione for a period of time and continue with a maintenance dose. It's recommended to take 500mg. to 1000mg. of vitamin C along with the glutathione.
The following time frames are recommended to obtain the best skin whitening effects based on the degree of melanin pigmentation
